I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing uncomfortable side effects. It sounds as though it's still early days for you, and this is definitely a marathon, not a sprint. While side effects are no fun, they do tend to dissipate with a few weeks of consistent use of the medication. And you are definitely on the right track by thinking about a replacement for the routine of happy hour. The first step in getting started with Oar Health is to complete an online consultation with a medical professional. We make it easy to do that through our site. While medication is often appropriate for people who are drinking more than is healthy for them and want to cut back or quit, only a medical professional can determine if it is right for you. As part of your evaluation, we will ask you to share a health history, including conditions you have been diagnosed with and medications that you take. I'm so sorry to hear that treatment through Oar Health has not worked well for you. If you'd like to brainstorm options with a medical provider or health coach, please don't hesitate to log in to your dashboard to send them a message. The unfortunate truth is that taking back control over alcohol is a difficult project, and no treatment option is 100% successful for every person each time they attempt to cut back or quit. But that's not a reason to give up! A future treatment attempt may be successful, and there are additional modalities of treatment such as mutual peer support and professional behavioral healthcare that can be used on their own or in addition to prescription medication. In general, our coaches respond to members within 24 hours. While I can't give you medical advice in this forum, I can share that members commonly report that their experience of drinking changes as they use their prescribed medication. And less enjoyment and reward from alcohol can be a powerful mechanism leading to less drinking over time. So, it sounds as though you may be on a very good track.
