I bought the eco clear sealant for my brand new tigerwood decking. I followed all the instructions and it looked really good, at the start. That was in August. I then put a 2nd coat on in Sept. By Dec my deck was starting to show aging and turning silver, as tigerwood will do of not protected. By march 25, a mere 7 months, my deck looked 20 years old. I've power washed it and probably should have taken a sander to it, but I didn't this time. I bought a much cheaper brand of sealant, that I used b4 in all types of weather and the wood stayed fresh. This eco seal wood off in rain, no snow, not a hot sun. It looked good where it was covered by a rubber pad for my smoker.. the only place. I would never ever buy this product. This wasn't my 1st hardwood deck.. but it was my 1st and last time using this product. I have two full gals in taking to recycling..a waste of time and money. My deck prob will never look the same..product just doesn't hold up.

Hi Tracy. We are sorry to hear about your experience with ExoShield Clear. As the product designer and one of the owners of Nova, I have many years of experience with ExoShield on a variety of woods including TigerWood. I have personally used our ExoShield on a TigerWood exterior dining table with southern exposure here in Portland, OR. The results I got were outstanding, and with the exception of cleaning of the table with a light wipe down every few months, I was able to get 3 years before I finally decided to do a full sand and recoat. However, TigerWood is an exceptionally difficult wood to finish. First of all, it tends to get mill glaze from planing; basically the knives used to plane it down from rough beat down and compress the cells right at the wood's surface - this prevents any finish from properly penetrating into the material. TigerWood should be sanded and then water popped before finishing. You really need dry weather for at least a week before and after finishing. We have had more failures of ExoShield reported on TigerWood than any other species of wood. Be sure to sand down your deck in order to open up the wood cells prior to refinishing. And be sure to wipe down to remove any sanding dust. Good luck on your project. Also, we do take returns - just send us an email and we'll walk you through the process.

Hands down the best stain I’ve used! It’s a little pricey, but well worth the money if you expect incredible results.

The product was as specified. The high oil, low solvents content, paired with the use of pigments not dyes allowed me to achieve the perfect finish on my clients' exterior mahogany door. I knew the heavy weathered area would take an additional coat to achieve the consistent satin finish I was after. So, I bought more than I needed. I hope to use the remainder to rejuvenate the project with maintenance applications in the future, as its in a marine environment. I was impressed with its workability on the vertical surface. Overall, I'm quite satisfied.
