I don't understand why my light bill was so high when I was away camping all summer and was not at home to use energy.

Hi Margaret, Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your Nexamp account. The design of the community solar program in Maine is that you receive solar credits (and Nexamp invoices) based on what your share of the solar farm has generated for the month. These solar credits are used to lower what you owe back to your utility and were based on your historical usage patterns when you first signed up. Overall, this means that in the summer months you would receive a lot more credits compared to the winter months when solar energy is less. Given that you were away for the summer, you likely generated excess credits that you didn’t need to use since your electricity costs were very low. You now will be able to use those credits come wintertime when our solar production is lowest, and your electricity usage increases. With this said, if you feel that you still have too many credits or plan to use a lot less electricity consistently over the course of the year compared to when you first signed up with Nexamp, please let us know. We can make sure to adjust your account as necessary to best support your needs. If you have questions about the costs remaining on your utility account, we suggest that you speak with them directly. However, if you have additional questions about your Nexamp account our support team would be happy to assist. Our team is available at 855-727-4636 or [email protected] Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM EST. Thank you for your time as a Nexamp community solar subscriber.
