I cannot emphasize enough do not waste your time with this company. They should rename the company to National Stress Lines. The movers confirmed they were going to show up 1 day before only to not show up. They then showed up with a half full truck causing half of our stuff to show up 10 days later. I understand delays happen but the intentional lack of communication is the real issue here. They clearly book their moves at the last minute while promising a smooth experience. This is not a reputable company as the actual moves are essentially gig workers that work for all the moving companies. If you love extra stress with your move, give these guys a shot if not STAY CLEAR! Save your money!

We're sorry your move didn't go as planned. Our team contacted you daily after the pickup delay and again when part of your shipment required a second delivery, and we worked with you directly to offset the costs. Shared trucks are an industry standard for interstate moves. We'd welcome the chance to continue the conversation at [email protected].

A big mess so far
We hired National Van Lines for a cross-country move from San Jose to Madison, and unfortunately the experience has fallen well short of what we were promised. Pickup was rescheduled with less than 24 hours' notice (8/4 to 8/5). Communication after the contract was signed was inconsistent at best: emails went unanswered, calls were often met with "I don't know," and we found ourselves initiating nearly every status update. We weren't able to get a confirmed arrival time for the rescheduled pickup day until that same morning. The loading crew worked very quickly, carrying up to four boxes stacked on their backs at a time, including ones marked FRAGILE GLASS. On a couple of occasions that pace resulted in items being dropped from roughly six feet up, with no acknowledgment or change in approach. An item was also left behind at pickup despite being pointed out multiple times before the crew left.
We were told our belongings would go directly onto a trailer and remain there until delivery. That did not happen. They have been sitting in a storage unit near our old house, in high heat, for 13 days, something we only discovered because we placed a tracker in one of our own boxes. When we asked directly where our shipment was, we were told it was on a truck. It was not. After we mentioned our tracker data, we were told they didn't know why it was in storage either. We called for updates every day and received no new information until 8/14, one day before our 8/15-8/20 delivery window was set to begin, when we were told the assigned driver's truck had broken down and the new estimate was 8/26. As of this writing, our belongings are still in that storage unit.
We understand that mechanical issues happen. What's harder to understand is why, in a major metro area with many carriers and drivers, an alternative couldn't be arranged in the 13 days since our items were picked up, and why we weren't told about any of this until the day before our window opened despite calling every single day. National Van Lines' entire function is coordinating loaders, drivers, and unloaders. We'd genuinely like to understand what happened operationally over the past two weeks, and we hope the company will use this as an opportunity to review its internal communication between departments, since that was consistently the weakest part of this experience.
The compensation currently offered, $150 a night toward a hotel plus half of meal costs, or a $100 per diem (not per person), starting only after 8/20, does not reflect the actual disruption and cost this has caused us. We're hoping National Van Lines will reconsider this and work with us toward a fair resolution, both in terms of getting our belongings delivered on a date we can rely on, and in terms of compensation that reflects what this move has actually cost us. We'll update this review based on how the rest of the process goes.

Michael, thank you for the detailed feedback, and we're sorry the experience fell short. Your shipment was loaded today and is en route to delivery. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, it will be delivered on 8/26. We're looking into the communication concerns you raised, and we'll keep you informed as things progress. They broke my $500 desk and still…
They broke my $500 desk and still charged me for moving it, didn’t answer my claim emails for 4 months and didn’t pay me a penny for it! delivered my stuff later than delivery date on the contract that we agreed upon (due to their operation shut down/inspection), which caused me 200$ to rent a room waiting for my stuff! They ignored all my emails about it!! Avoid these fraudulents by all means!

National Van Lines has NO Customer SVC after u sign up and NO drivers
We have had horrible experience with National Van Lines in a move from AZ to DEN - they are over a week past due on delivery and come to find out our furniture was put in warehouse after pickup in AZ as they find a driver - they absolutely told us National has NO drivers available for 11 hour Interstate move!!! National Van Lines doesnt care - National Customer service and VP of Customer Svc does nothing but apologize and say they are working on it after dozens of emails, texts, and phone calls to even get an answer. Your moving coordinator who signs you up will completely ghost you when there is a problem - be assure of this. This is how National Van Lines operates. They will keep your goods hostage in unknown warehouse as they look for a driver and will communicate nothing. Our goods are being held hostage by National Van Lines and they could care less. WORSE EXPERIENCE we have ever encountered with any corporation or moving company- WORSE!

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback, and we're truly sorry for the frustration this delay caused. We understand how stressful it is to be without your belongings for longer than expected, and we recognize that the communication you received along the way did not meet the standard you should expect from us.
We're glad your shipment arrived on August 4. A credit has already been applied to your account to reflect the delay you experienced. We're sorry again for the trouble this caused. Please reach out with any further questions or concerns.

Do not trust them!! They will contract out to cheap budget movers
I had used National years ago for a move and it went great. Things have changed! Their representative Stephanie G. promised they never contract out any moves. This was a lie, my move was contracted out to a budget company and it was horrible! Things were packed haphazardly, clothes in trash bags thrown in between boxes and furniture,so by time they arrived they had a horrible smell and mildewed. They didn't have enough room in the truck for all our belongings. The day of delivery there were things brought into my home that belonged to someone else. The persons that loaded the truck just threw everything in. They lost parts of tables and bookcases so they can't be used now. I have never received an apology or explanation as to why I was lied to. Paid nearly $16000 for then to contract out to a company that charges $5000. Do not trust this company as I did, when the budget movers arrived it was too late to try and get a reputable company. 4 months later and still suffering from their lies.

WARNING to anyone considering National…
Warning to anyone considering National Van Lines Inc. for an interstate move. I signed a contract on April 29, 2026 with a delivery window of May 28–June 11, 2026. It is now July 1, and my belongings have not been delivered. They have not even left California.
The company now claims my contracted delivery date was July 2, a date that appears nowhere on the contract I signed. When I call, representatives tell me there's no record of my original dates. I have the signed, dated contract that says otherwise.
I've been sleeping on an air mattress for over a month, paying for a storage unit sitting empty, and waiting on delivery dates that keep getting pushed. I was told pickup would happen June 25–26. It didn't. I was sent an invoice on June 27, paid it in full, and was then told my new delivery window is July 5–15, more than a month past my contract.
I have every text message, the invoice, and the signed contract. I've filed a complaint with the FMCSA/DOT. If you're trusting this company with everything you own, please reconsider.

Nicholas wants to argue with customers
I couldn't even get past the quoting phase, because this guy Nicholas wanted to argue about how great they are. How many awards they've been given. Literally, the guy just wanted to argue with me. I call back and get the same guy. I'm going else where. I don't care what awards you've guys gotten I wanted to quote, and just like you know, usually those awards are bought, they're not earned that's not in the opinion. that's called a research study.

I wouldn't touch them with a 10-foot pole
NVL moved me from the Bay Area to Colorado. They were about 50% more than any other mover quoted me, but I was encouraged by, among other things, their commitment to quality work and prompt resolution of claims. Ha! I grossly overpaid and they refuse to make good on the items they broke or lost.
They delivered +/- 60 boxes to my apartment. Other than setting up the furniture, they did not unpack any boxes. Over the next couple of weeks, I unpacked all 60 boxes. I discovered that a device used with my bed (an Eight Sleep hub) was missing, and they damaged a trophy shelf. I timely submitted a claim. Incredibly, they denied the claim on the grounds that I hadn't identified the issues 'on the delivery papers'. How could I possibly identify that something was lost or damaged when the property was delivered??? Utter nonsense.
My bed frame was also delivered damaged. I showed the move supervisor the damage, and one of his crew tried to fix the problem to no avail. NVL denied the claim as if none of this happened.
The total amount of the loss or damage is around $2,000. I was offered $20.
NVL's strategy is clearly to deny claims at first, hoping the client will give up.
