Mixed Review
Update: 8/6/26
I just wanted to update that since the very helpful technician in Wilmington ( while on vacation, see below) that switched out the handset and cord did his thing, there have been no further error codes, malfunctions, or false violations. No one wants these things, but I didn't give my previous reviews bc Im angry about having to have it, or frustrated with learning to use it. It was legitimately one problem after another. And likewise, I am able to give thanks and appreciation to Wilmington when very due. Ty for making a very stressful vacation day a little better.
Mixed Review
I left a review awhile back due to nothi g but problems with my device. In Monitechs defense, the lady reviewi g these reviews has been very responsive but the device is still awful. After changing the handset out, the device continued to malfunction. It constantly doesnt recognize my car is running and tells me to start engine now entire time im driving. From my research its the wiring. I am on vacation and had plans to have wiring redone upon returning. Well, to our delight, it completely quit working during driving on vacation. Handset fell right off cord. Thankfully we had sense not to turn car off and called monitech. They got us an appt in the town we are vacationing in. Thats how we all want to spend vacation right? We drove to the center and turned car off and thankfully we did it there bc car wouldnt start and device wouldnt turn on. I DO want to praise the Wilmington NC technician. Our appt was 3 hours away but we couldnt go anywhere and it was hot so he took us in right away. Installed a new handset and cord. He told us the old cord was too short and probably part of our ongoing issues. He was super professional and polite, very different from our experiences in our hometown office ( have been to Wilson and Goldsboro) If it werent 2 hours away Id drive here for every calibration. But my point in another review is to stress....record and document EVERYTHING. I keep an online journal and will use my phone to record anytime the device is acting up. I call Monitech with everything. Not to be a pita, but to cover mine. These devices WILL get you false violations and if one ends up getting you a dmv hearing, please be prepared to show the receipts that its the device and not you.

The customer service representative was great, however
The customer service representative was quick, efficient and polite. Even though I was irritated, which I did apologize for since it was not her fault. For the 15 months I have had the device I have been through 3 brand new batteries. Also before the 'upgraded' device my vehicle would randomly not even turn over. I was told it was a car issue nothing with the device. Since the new device that has not happened however today, after 3 months, I am having to undo my negative terminal on the battery to not receive an error. I understand i have put myself in the situation to have the device but it is very aggravating to not know if my vehicle is going to start or not.

Device sucks, customer service awesome....
I have had this device installed for almost 2 months. The first month it pulled up a 6016 error code 4 times, it will fail then pass for no reason, I will start the car and it will pass then during running test say warn "rogue alcohol level detected", then pass on arrival test. My wife who doesn't drink at all went to the dollar store and it passed her start test but it rendered our vehicle in operable. The car wouldn't even try to start. We paid 100 dollars to get it towed and sure enough, once again a 6016 code. The cord constantly gets loose and shuts device off. It will fail and pass at anytime. Brushing my teeth isn't illegal, nor is drinking a red bull or orange juice. If it can't tell the difference between a Bud Light and a glass of orange juice, it shouldn't be backed by the state. And if you fail to start your car the first blow, it gives you a required test 5 mins later. If you don't do the second or fail the second, it's a violation. I'm sorry I didn't know humans were built with a in house breathalyzer. You can eat a cheeseburger and fail this thing. The MADD organization has gone too far in the state of NC and I am fully aware it I a violation of basic rights in thus country. It may be the Bible belt but that doesn't mean old lady's with nothing to do because they don't work get to dictate everything with their dead husband's money. It's sad. When I did have problems, I'm glad to see my favorite Tawanna on the reviews. She has talked to me and my wife. When my wife was stranded at dollar general she helped us. She was awesome. Best customer service by far. Our installer in Franklin, NC was very polite as well. He gave us a general idea of the device, he got it installed quickly and was very through. Other than the faulty device that is state approved, the humans on the other side are top notch people. I wish I could remember the installers name, but I get to see him in 5 days for calibration so I will post another review for him when I get his name. Otherwise, one more shout out to Tawanna. I don't get customer service like that from my bank and they have all my money. Lol. Good luck to all us unlucky people that have this poor device in our vehicle. :(

After installation was completed
After installation was completed. The installer was sitting on one side of the desk, I was on the other side. He told me I hade to sign multiple signatures on a electronic pad… I never saw the documents I was signing until he printed them out. I asked questions… he said his job was to install, if I had questions, “call DMV”. The system was still confusing, he wasn’t much help. So far, I’m not impressed with customer support.

I am voluntarily using monitech but the…
I am voluntarily using monitech but the stress has not been worth it. My interlock device did not work properly for 2 weeks. I got code 1028 and invalid sample. It did not ask me for an arrival test. It would set off alarm when driving. Then it would go into lockout mode. Even after fixing it over and over on the phone....it kept happening. I am in sales and it affected my job. I got locked out at customer houses. After 3 visits to monitech locations over an hour away from my house, I hope it's fixed finally. They gave me a new device and I hope the problem is fixed.
