Mercy Bakery was founded on the principle that people should have access to the most basic form of substance: bread. With the mission to provide free public bakeries worldwide for those in need, the first Mercy Bakery opened in Sana’a, Yemen, in August 2018.Our goal is to provide at least 28,000 loaves of bread a day to families in need, therefore providing a minimum of 840,000 loaves a month. Right now we give out just over 700,000 loaves per month, in addition to healthy meals provided by our Mercy Kitchens. Our donors have continued to make this dream a reality and we have expanded to 10 bakeries in Yemen and our first international expansion to Kharian, Pakistan. We want to expand further, but are limited by our resources. We are grateful for the strides we are making with your support.

The work that Mercy Bakery has done for people in need is very inspirational. They work tirelessly to provide food and supplies to those affected by the ongoing conflict in the world. Alhumdulilah, it's also nice to see them branch out to my home country of UGANDA. May Allah, bless everyone at the organization and everyone who donates

Mercy bakery is one of the most…
Mercy bakery is one of the most hardworking and dedicated organizations… both personally and professionally. Thank you for the immeasurably valuable work you have done and continue to do. May Allah continue to guide and illuminate your path. Allah (swt) says: “HELP ONE ANOTHER IN ACTS OF PIETY AND RIGHTEOUSNESS AND DO NOT ASSIST EACH OTHER IN ACTS OF SINFULNESS AND TRANGRESSION”

Suspect
I have donated to this charity and when I was trying to get more information through their email confirmation for the donation. The link they provided is no good, I keep getting security certificate is expired. Too many problems and the fact that I was unable to communicate via email make me feel I got scammed.
Response from Mercy Bakery | HRDOct 21, 2022
Hi Matra Hart, I am terribly sorry that you had those issues and I hope to resolve them now. Your money either supported the operations of Humanity for Relief and Development, which is the non-profit that runs the Mercy Bakeries, or it went 100% into funding the Mercy Bakeries themselves. We publish our monthly reports of how much bread we give out here:

Financial transparency is one of our new top priorities and we are working hard to make sure our donors know where their money goes. We will be implementing new processes shortly to achieve this goal.
I want to confirm that you emailed [email protected]? We check that email inbox Monday-Friday.
Once again, I profusely apologize for the delay in getting back to you. We have been overwhelmed with the emergency situation in Yemen amidst these uncertain times, and have been facing a shortage of resources at our offices as well.
If you have ANY questions, concerns, I’d be more than willing to personally give you a call if you would like to learn more about our organization. Feel free to send me an email at [email protected] or call us during normal business hours at 929-298-4534 and I will get back to you at the earliest.
Thank you so much for bringing your concerns to our attention. We appreciate it.
Sincerely,

No response on my tax letter
We donated $2500 last year and wanted to get a tax letter stating no goods or services were received in exchange for the donation. We did not get such letter, even after countless emails and calls. Now I owe taxes on that donation as I can't claim it as a donation. I'm not questioning the legitimacy of the company, i don't have much data to support my PoV but I am very, very disappointed in their non-responsiveness for something that I believe is my basic right to ask for, and receive.
Update as of 5/3/21:
After posting this review, I got the attention of Mercy Bakery and they were able to provide me with the donation letter within a day of me contacting them on the updated email address provided. I'm upping my rating from 1-star to 3-star because of this. My feedback would be to ensure you use the proper email address to be contacted on your PayPal account and ensure your website has the right phone number or way to contact you. I understand payment via third party apps like PayPal may not share the donor addresses for Mercy Bakery to send these donation letters to automatically BUT the onus on having updated information is on Mercy Bakery so donors or others can contact them and not get a voicemail box that is full or a no-response from an old email address. Other than that, I do truly appreciate the good work this organization is doing to feed the hungry.

Hi Uzair, I'm very sorry that you have had this experience and that you did not receive a timely response. I completely understand your concern and how important it is to receive a tax receipt for your donation.
Please allow me to assist you with this matter and ensure that your concerns are addressed. Could you please send us an email at [email protected] with the name and email address you used to submit your donation?
Thank you, I look forward to hearing a response from you.

This charity is working towards improving their transparency.
I was planning to donate to this charity some time ago but found myself going through a series of different websites with vague information which seemed very dodgy. To add to that there seems to be no adequate database for registered charities in the US, unlike the UK and Ireland where all the information can be accessed and reviewed from independent sources - there is a database as such, but the information available is minimal, a name and post box address seems to suffice.
I therefore came here to Trustpilot and left quite a scathing review. The president of the charity has now taken the time to respond to my review and provide the relevant information. I do hope that their good work continues, they now understand the need for transparency in this type of enterprises.
THE FACTS:
This so-called "registered charity" provided no registration number or physical address for either their office or the presumed bakeries they claimed to have built in Yemen. Just a load of social media sites. However, they took the time to reply to my review and have provided all the information requested below. I hope to check it out in the near future.

Hello Felix,
First off, I would like to extend my sincere apology for your less-than-satisfactory experience with our organization. We're sorry to hear that you found the process of donating to Mercy Bakery “dodgy.”
I understand that when you were planning to donate to our organization, the link you had saved initially was no longer working. As a result of our ongoing marketing efforts to bring awareness to our cause, we have been utilizing social media and other fundraising platforms (such as madinah.org), which may have been why the original web address didn’t work.
I would also despise if an organization were to try and deceive me by posing as a charity. One of the reasons you may not have found charity registration information about Mercy Bakery is because it is not its own charity -but rather a project of our charity organization, Humanity for Relief and Development (HRD Global). At HRD, we pride ourselves on transparency and ensuring that every penny from our generous supporters is put to good use on the ground in Yemen.
I’d like to assure you that our organization indeed is a registered 501(c)(3) charity, and our registration number is 83-0919620. Our office address is located at 41 Flatbush Ave., Floors 1 & 2, Brooklyn, New York, 11217.
If you’d like to see more information regarding the locations of our various Mercy Bakeries in Yemen, as well as our other projects, please visit our website: https://hrdglobal.org/mercy-bakery-kitchen/
Once again, I profusely apologize for the delay in getting back to you. We have been overwhelmed with the emergency situation in Yemen amidst these uncertain times, and have been facing a shortage of resources at our offices as well.

Feel free to send me an email at [email protected] or leave a message at 929-298-4534 with your name and call-back number, and I will get back to you at the earliest.
Thank you so much for bringing your concerns to our attention. We appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Maeen Ali
