Mercury Card Services Transition Disaster for Loyal Best Western Cardholder
As a frequent traveler, Best Western has consistently been my go-to motel chain. However, a recent and baffling experience with their credit card transition has given me serious pause. Following Best Western's switch from First National Bank of Omaha to Mercury Card Services, I was shocked to discover a $98.93 interest charge on my transferred balance. This was particularly upsetting because I have always paid my credit card statement in full each month, but this charge was inexplicably being treated as a cash advance. Despite contacting Mercury Card Services multiple times and speaking with three different supervisors, I was unable to get this erroneous charge resolved. To my further frustration, each representative acknowledged on their system that my account has a history of being paid in full with no prior finance charges. It makes absolutely no sense that this would be treated as a cash advance. My experience with First National Bank of Omaha, the previous card provider, was flawless for many years. This stark contrast prompted me to contact Best Western's customer service directly. While they were polite and empathetic, they stated they were unable to assist and advised me to contact Mercury again. While I still appreciate Best Western motels, this entire ordeal has forced me to seriously reconsider the value of their credit card and the points I accumulate. The fact that a loyal customer who consistently pays their balance in full is treated this way is deeply concerning and makes me question whether the benefits outweigh the risk of such frustrating and illogical issues. Other consumers should be aware of potential problems arising from this credit card transition.
