Journalistic quality is quite questionable, the articles are not referenced and are often rants looking like pieces. One is better off listening to Instagram influencers and reading the good medium articles by going in incognito. Would highly recommend against investing in it.

I had been finding the articles useful over the last few years and was about to pay to subscribe, but suddenly it decided that it knew what 'my politics' were and started sending the most slanted, untrue, political hit pieces ever. I'm non-partisan and decide each issue on what my own values and desires are. I don't like seeing political agenda motivated slander heaped on either the so-called 'left' or the so-called 'right', especially in a media outlet that purports to be a 'trusted source'. This kind of social media has a large part of promoting the highly divided society that we see today, by failing to present to people balanced sides, instead people are lulled into thinking that everyone else feels the way that they do and that therefore anyone else with a different idea is not a 'real person' but some kind of 'other'. This could be the downfall of civilized society that we're seeing.

Genuinely bad content written by unknown authors with no qualifications or reputations. Basically it's Facebook/Twitter rants but you get to pay for it. The Conversation and others cover the same sort of subject matter but at much higher quality. Medium content isn't peer reviewed or held to any kind of evidentiary or academic standards. Like many online publications, they charge readers while providing very little support to the writers who provide the content. Also very, very white and very, very middle class.

Censorship, centralized... be careful not to get removed your content.

I would give it 0 if I could. Scam!!!! I signed up to watch Better Call Saul and I couldnt watch even 1 episode.

I used to LOVE Medium. It has been a godsend for learning specific web development concepts through their software developer writers' walkthrough demos. Today, I'm halfway through setting up a walkthrough on my computer and I get Medium's all too frequent message these days: "To keep reading this story, create a free account." This is disgusting. I just wasted over half an hour on an article I apparently can longer read. (How can you give me access to an article and then suddenly decide half way through my reading it that I have to now pay for access??) This blatantly obvious and overly-aggressive push for monetizing off their readers is getting out of control. From now on I will sadly be going Out of my way to avoid Medium articles and find reference material elsewhere. (Cannot believe I am even saying this - was such a huge fan of this group.) Such a shame for what seemed like was a good-natured company with integrity to take a turn like this...

Ridiculous monetization techniques. They push you to sign up, and then they limit articles that you can read. If you just logout, you have unlimited access. This was bearable, but not less ridiculous. Then I found an article about current corona virus pandemic, that was LOCKED for guests, and also counted towards the article quota if you're member. Just disgusting.
