Been bidding on this site for a couple months and this place is a hit or miss. Items that aren't electronics are worth it most of the time. So far it's been 50/50 on the items I've purchased. Baby items and furniture have been good, but I've had a couple instances of a different item in the box than what was posted online. But on electronics, I've either had missing remotes, power cords, and missing the actual unit inside. They do offer an insurance to return the item, but when your bidding under $10 on some items, it's not worth it since the insurance is non refundable. They do offer an inspection prior to bidding, but it's definitely a process. I purchased a antenna for a couple bucks plus all the fees that was listed as open box, and brought it home to find out there was no antenna inside, just some parts that didn't belong to item. I bought a bassinette, that had a playpen inside. I also won a t-shirt heat press, that had a used George Forman grill inside. Not the items described in the postings at all. They list the items as inspected before selling, but someone is clearly not paying attention. I think that is a major glitch to list the main items as just an open box, to not have the actual unit inside they advertised. I've pretty much learned from my experiences, avoid the electronics, and stick to the furniture. They need to have a better system for returns if there is a mistake made on the item described and listed.

I have bought a lot of items from the Warren and Boardman, OH warehouses in the past year. The Warren site has very helpful staff that will load the items in my SUV. I understand that the "open box" items may have defects or missing parts. This happens to me about 20% of the time. Some of these should have been listed as "damaged" (there are often times notes in the box saying what is wrong with the item) rather than listed as "open box." What I take issue with is taking a picture of an item (a bad picture at that), describing it and linking it to the product at Amazon--but it is not the product in the box. Since it is sometimes very difficult to visualize what is photographed it is a shock to see a totally different product when you open the box. The product received is usually inferior to what was pictured. If the item received is not what is described MAC.bid should take it back--it is their error, not mine. They tell you that you should have checked it out first or bought the insurance. I did try once to check out an item before I bid on it but the boxes were piled so high I couldn't get out the box I wanted to inspect--if I would have tried to get the box out I would have toppled all the boxes and probably hurt myself. The most disgusting issue happened twice. I bought a rug and it had obviously been used and was filthy (you could not tell from the picture). The person inspecting the rug could have easily seen the filth and the product should not have been listed. The second item was a $50 filter for an air purifier. Whoever bought a new filter from Amazon took the new filter out and put their old/filthy filter in the box and sent it back to Amazon. So, Amazon did not inspect the return and MAC.bid did not inspect the item. My recommendation would be to NOT list items that should be thrown in the trash. "Open Box" does not mean worn out, broken beyond repair, or filthy items! The bid prices are going higher and I am getting more defective/dirty or misrepresented items so I probably won't be doing much business with MAC.bid.

I recently won a bid on a Hoover Carpet Cleaner (listed as Open Box). It was listed as $230 value, so I thought I had gotten a great deal. Not a great deal! Handle was broken which is important for the trigger to work properly. I tried it on a runner. While I did get it to spray (some of the time), it barely extracted any water. After using 1/2 tank of water/solution, only about 1/2" was extracted. I also found that the 'spinning' brushes were not spinning. Total junk. Another recent purchase was a ceramic garden fairy. It was also listed as 'Open Box', although it was not in a box at all. It was completely broken in half. Yes, you can go and inspect before bidding, or pay extra for insurance, but the closest location to me is 30 mins, and paying extra only seems worthwhile if you are buying something more expensive. Giving them 2 stars because i have made several items that were good, but probably won't be back.

For the second time I have won an auction only to find that a $7 charge for "buyers assurance" was added onto my invoice. By the time auctions end there is no one to answer the phone at MacBid and they do not open again until 9:00 am the next day, which is when they are putting thru the charge for your auction. When I sent them 2 emails requesting this be corrected and then left a voice mail after trying 3 times to get to a real person. I finally received a email response tonight stating that once an item is picked up the charge cannot be reversed. When I went into pick up the items I did look for the person up front to speak to but the desk was empty. I finally asked an employee to page someone and I waited for more than 10 minutes and finally gave up and left with my item. MacBid is known to often attach inaccurate pictures to auctions and they also provide incorrect links to auctions that lead to Amazon products that don't always match the auction item. It is a shame that they chose not to conduct business in an honest manner.

Fairly new to this business. It is possible to find good deals but use caution. Many items are boxed and taped making an in depth, pre purchase inspection quite difficult. I bought a lamp set, in original box, taped securely, actually looked like new. Once I got it home found it was missing the lamp shades. The pictures of the items on their website are not necessarily the actual item being offered but a picture copied from Amazon or some other source. Something they will happily inform you of if you point out the picture does not match the actual item. High dollar items should definitely be inspected before bidding, if possible, and the buyers assurance does provide a measure of protection at a non refundable additional cost. Buyer beware.

Most of the stuff sold here is damaged goods (or mislabeled). My wife has bought several things from here that were listed as "open box", virtually all of them were obviously damaged in some way or another. Possibly half of the stuff was salvageable... but some was obviously bought by someone who stole key components out of the box, and then returned it as though they merely peeked inside. One such item was a Bear "G3 Cruzer" compound bow my wife won... when I opened the box, it was very clearly a Bear Legit compound bow - it says it RIGHT ON THE LIMBS! (plus the strings were all blown off it as though someone dry-fired it)... luckily I didn't care and was able to quickly test/repair it, so we didn't use the Buyer Assurance... but had the riser been damaged, it would have cost more to repair than merely buying a brand new bow, and would have been $15 down the drain. Honestly, it should be criminal to sell "open box" items (that you can't return) which aren't even what you claim they are or disclosing OBVIOUS damage. I wouldn't be shocked if they tried to sell an empty box to some people as many of the pictures of the "item" are nothing but the cardboard box. Honestly, how hard is it to just open the product and take a picture of ALL the contents??
