So far i’ve only had good experiences using kindred. The homes i’ve stayed in have been great, and the people that have stayed in my flat have all been respectful. The kindred cleaners do a really great job of cleaning - however they often don’t speak english and can sometime mis-understand things. Thats really my only issue i’ve faced. I think the app is really well designed and the kindred concierge are incredible - they’ve always responded to me within 24hrs and are usually really helpful with any last minute changes. E.g. change of dates or time for the cleaner to arrive.

As someone who travels often with a cat at home, I’m very grateful to have Kindred as an affordable way to see the world while a fellow member who also owns cats is taking care of my sweet boy and home. Kindred prides itself on being a private network of people who respect each other’s homes and guidelines. My most recent experience of staying in another member’s home in London for 2 weeks was wonderful, but my first experience hosting someone in my NYC home unfortunately was not. The Kindred member (who had previously been a host and guest) did not follow the guidelines of cleaning my cat’s litter box each day, which was evident from the state of it and my home after I retuned just hours after he checked out. One week prior to his stay, we FaceTimed and I emphasized how important it was to clean the litter box so there would be no accidents. I assumed this would be a simple guideline since he claimed to own 2 cats. You can imagine how shocked I was when I came home to find a filthy litter box that hadn’t been cleaned in days, and muddy paw prints from the litter box all over my apartment because my cat relieved himself on the floors and bathroom mat (which had to be discarded). Appliances and cookware were left all over the counters and there was moldy rotten food in the sink. I do not believe this is the norm for Kindred members and I believe I was just unlucky. I reached out to Kindred immediately and implored them to remove this guest from the network since this goes against the very principles that the platform advertises. Kindred did not respond or provide a resolution as urgently as I would have hoped and I’m not sure if that member is still allowed to use the platform. I requested a free check-out cleaning but over a week passed before I heard back so I had to clean the apartment myself. My NYC cleanings are very expensive so hiring a check-out cleaning myself would have exceeded the amount that Kindred reimburses. Despite this negative first experience, I do continue to use the platform and have become more diligent about who I choose to stay in my home. Overall I do think Kindred can improve their customer service experience and provide more transparency in how they respond to members who do not follow platform guidelines. I do still recommend Kindred for frequent travelers. My main suggestion for members is to have very clear guidelines for your guests and to do your due diligence in vetting who is staying in your home.

Great service! Only downside is reimbursement process for cleaning and any damage made. Too short a window and can not guarantee the safety.

We’ve traveled twice with kindred and hosted twice. It’s been an amazing experience all around, with great customer service and kind hosts and travellers. Finally an app that is not based on profit but is more about sharing!

The concierge was really responsive

As a guest and a host, I recommend the Kindred platform. I’ve stayed in massive and beautiful homes in NM, DC, and soon NJ/NY. Being a guest in these homes is a gift. They’re spacious and very welcoming. Hosting is relatively easy to prepare for, and the guests themselves in my condo have been fantastic. The only thing I’d want folks to watch out for is scammy guest requests. I’ve had 3 different scammy guest requests to stay at my condo. They’re often fairly easy to spot and to then reject the request. It’s not at all surprising that scammers want to use such a pro-social platform. Hosts should just use good sense when accepting requests.

Expensive, but overall they are good
