Disappointing Experience
I have been through the Sonora program and had 2 different instructors. Unfortunately, neither of them were very helpful to my style of learning, apparently. I think that maybe what is lacking in this program, is consistency/structure of what is being taught by the instructors. It seems like what they teach is completely up to them, and I felt like a lot was lacking in the answers they had to my questions a lot of times. It can be difficult to get technique tips from guitar instructors, and these people were no different. My guitar skills have improved, but for the cost of the program, I felt like my experience should have been so much better. A lot of times, they throw a song or solo at you to learn how to play, and I realize this is beneficial but also very time consuming, on top of all the other things you are supposed to be practicing. It's an easy thing to assign students because it's low effort on their end, instead of having to take more time to teach you what you might actually want to learn. And good luck getting your instructor's full undivided attention at times. They often have gigs and are unavailable. I suppose these things would be ok, for the most part, but for the cost, not so much. It's very expensive and in paying this amount of money, you kind of feel like you should be a pro by the end of the program. They make it seem like learning from these professional musicians make the money worth it, but I'm not so sure it is. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because I did improve on guitar and learned quite a bit. I am still far from where I'd like to be though. And again...not a good value for the cost.
