A place for a woman needing answers
As a woman, especially in this day and age, we aren't really prepared for the changes we experienced as midlife comes around. Our parents were not wholly prepared to pass on this information, and especially after COVID, most practitioners are hanging on for dear life to handle the increase in patients, problems, and workload. As a healthcare practitioner myself, I was not prepared for what my life after 40 would bring. It was always generally agreed that menopause was a change in a woman's life that didn't occur until the late 50's and early 60's. So at 43, my body felt as if a foreigner had taken over and not in a good way. Passed on from specialist to specialist, even seeing multiple GYN specialists, (utilizing a medical school for interns, residents, and fellows), it was never suggested that my joint pains, hair loss, skin changes, libido loss, mood instability, and overall destruction of my former self after a childbirth at 40 with traumatic complications requiring a hysterectomy and surgical repair, as well as contracting COVID as a first responder. However, as my insurance casually advertised Midi in conjunction with Hinge Health, I saw a unique company who seemed to offer services for someone like me. I easily answered questions, and even without having seen a provider yet, I felt seen. Understood. I was directed to the opportunity to schedule a virtual visit with a Midi practitioner, Kathleen. It was merely a couple days away. Midi kept me updated every step of the way. I felt like I had someone on my side. Kathleen made sure to hear me- verified all information I had entered on my questionnaire. Then she went on to explain that not only was I not unique, but that these things I were feeling and experiencing, was normal. But that Midi handled each patient uniquely. And treated them as such. I was given options. I was given choices that allowed me to participate in the choices of my care. I was given follow up, in writing, about everything we discussed, reasoning behind common misconceptions with current treatment strategies versus older and more dangerous methods. An easily accessible portal to communicate with my provider, ask questions, ability to reach out with concerns. While it has been a short time since I first met with my provider, for the first time in years, I feel positive about my future. Thank you Midi, for creating a place for middle aged women to feel like they aren't alone. I'd recommend them to anyone who is feeling similarly. This is the most positive I've felt in a long time. A resounding thank you. Nichole F, PharmD
