Pay your own employees, the quality of my food should not depend on a tip!
Subject: Complaint Regarding Tip Requests on Pickup Orders and Poor Service I want to express my frustration with Jimmy John’s policy of asking customers to leave a tip when placing a pickup order through the app. I am already paying what I consider to be a high price for the sandwiches, and in the case of a pickup order, I am also driving to the restaurant myself to pick up the food. I’m not sure what exactly I’m being asked to tip for. I’m not receiving delivery, table service, or any additional service that would traditionally warrant a tip. I recently placed a pickup order and chose not to leave a tip. Unfortunately, the service I received afterward did nothing to change my opinion. I specifically requested that all three sandwiches be cut in half, one have no tomatoes, one have extra oil, and that napkins be included. None of those requests were fulfilled. That is especially frustrating because these are simple order instructions that should have been followed regardless of whether a customer leaves a tip. I understand that employees work hard, and I have no problem tipping when I receive service that warrants it. However, I strongly disagree with being prompted to subsidize employee wages through a tip for a basic pickup transaction. It is not the customer's responsibility to pay your employees' wages. If the cost of providing the service requires higher prices, then raise the price of the food accordingly and be transparent about it. As things currently stand, I will not be ordering from Jimmy John’s again unless the tip request for pickup orders is removed. I should be able to place and pay for a pickup order without being pressured to leave an additional tip—and I should receive the order exactly as I requested regardless of whether I choose to tip. I hope you will seriously reconsider this policy and address the lack of attention to customer order instructions.
