Don’t waste your money on IJL
This is going to be a roller coaster, so buckle up! (If you don’t want to read the whole thing- sparknotes version: DO NOT use Its Just Lunch. If I could’ve left a ZERO star review, I would) I was absolutely amped to try this dating service. They market themselves well. My initial consultation was with a bubbly, enthusiastic and positive woman named Lauren. Lauren convinced me to pay an obscene amount of money for 12 months of their service because she promised there were so many eligible bachelors in my area matching the description I gave them. I was pretty open. Seeking a male ages 28-38 (I’m 30) who is educated and fun and kind. I’m looking for someone at least a little bit taller than me (I’m tall, 5’8”) and someone with a career and life aspirations. Someone who has their life together and is ready for a mature, serious relationship. Lauren listened and had wonderful follow up questions and assured me these men definitely exist in my area. It broke down to about $500 a date. With all that money I was spending, I assumed meals would be compensated (at least a bit) but they weren’t. IJL sent us to some of the most expensive restaurants in the area (which is not the kind of $ I’m trying to spend on a first date). I was “matched” with a couple people early on... Who were quite outside the range (either age/ height/looks/ oh the life path I’m seeking) from what I had explicitly asked for… but my “matchmaker” (a socially awkward man named Shawn) bullied me into meeting them- “it’s the connections that you take a risk on are the ones that work out best!,” he said. Truthfully, each date IJL set me up with was more and brutal. I am a successful business owner, I own a beautiful home in town, I am a strong confident woman, I take my physical and mental health very seriously and I present myself professionally and elegantly. I was met with boys who presented poorly, couldn’t hold conversations, lived at home with their parents (nothing wrong with that but I’m at a different phase in my life), had no dining manners, didn’t ask me any questions about myself (even after I asked them numerous thought provoking questions). Quite frankly, these men are the kind of guys who “think the tinder/ hinge/ bumble algorithm doesn’t work for them.” I found myself struggling to have anything in common with these individuals. I was notttt having a good time. Occasionally, I would be given options for men in their 40s or men with children from previous relationships. Both of those options are not on the table for me but I kept getting pressured by various “matchmakers” to meet them “he’s such a great guy!” I was even told once to my face that I’m being shallow and picky… Eventually I found out that another girl I’m friendly with had also recently signed up for IJL… We compared our “dates” and they were all with the exact same people in the area…. So there is clearly ZERO “matchmaking” being done here… It’s just you get paired up with random humans who are close by that are also in their system. At this point I was furious and tried to reach out to Lauren. I emailed and called many many times. Finally I got the picture, she had ghosted me. I think Shawn must’ve quit or gotten fired… so I was bounced from matchmaker to matchmaker (all of whom didn’t know me nor took any time to get to know me or my preferences) sending me increasingly sparse yet increasingly unappealing matches. I then had a month-long family emergency where I was away from my phone and e-mail the entire time. When I got back, I found that my multi-thousand dollar account with IJL had been FROZEN due to inactivity. At this point I just wanted my money back… But it looks like that is not in the cards. I haven’t received any correspondence back from anyone when I bring up canceling my service. I would not recommend It’s Just Lunch “matchmaking” to anyone who is actually looking to be matched with someone with any value as a human being. That may sound harsh but I am a high achieving woman looking for my counterpart. You will certainly not find that here. Spend your money elsewhere, hun!!!
