Why Curriculum Associates, just WHY.
I usually don’t pay any head to school learning platforms, but there is one in particular, IReady, a math learning platform where they make you take adaptive diagnostics, hour long lessons, and insane stress, all to get in trouble by your teacher for “Not doing enough”, but is it really you, or is it the broken, so called “adaptive” test that makes you want to smash a hole through your Chromebook. It goes against all traditional teaching methods, and not even in a good way, it makes you take lessons that take more time to teach than your teacher, but are 10x less effective, it even blatantly says, you’re bound to (100%) chance to get at least 50% right, which implies you can also get at least 50% wrong, and that’s not even touching the fact that some students cry all day because they wrote 10 x 7 = 70 instead of 7 x 10 = 70. Is this really supposed to test students, because for many, it tests their patience, with the IMPOSSIBLY long lessons, how is it fair that kids can’t be kids because some inaccurate, impudent data said that they couldn’t do anything, and it sucks to suck, not even helping the kids the slightest. Imagine a kid accidentally presses the wrong button, even when it does explain, it takes an insanely long time, not explaining much, just circling around the problem and expecting kids to get it right, the satire on the IReady bot’s voice you can make is limited to “One…Plus…One…Equals…2”, mocking the crazy long speed, teachers can’t adjust any part of it, they can’t speed up the voice, or even shut it off altogether. In fact, those simple controls should NOT be limited to the teacher (which in fact they are not). Is this system ridiculing its users? Before I started IReady, my grades would earn praise, now thanks to this deranged system and its deranged CEO, my grade is something my parents don’t even want to acknowledge. It’s a system that I, personally, despise to the grave, I hope other schools don’t adopt this vapid system that teaches kids nothing other than to have anxiety and stress for the rest of their lesson and beyond, destroying any of their passion for school, tanking their grades, and personally, just BEING ANNOYING.
