Defamation law suits likely
UPDATE 4 July 2026: read the full review. If you use IPQS data to make decisions to NOT provide services then be prepared for law suits (or class action law suits) for defamation. IPQS data is at best VERY poorly inferred from the weakest of data or at worst simply made up. You will not have a leg to stand on and it could cost you everything. EDIT 1: IPQS response: "Please contact {email address removed} to submit any suspected false-positives. Usually in these situations your IP address is shared with other users due to your ISP's configuration, and other users are causing your IP address to be classified as high risk. We judge the overall behavior on an IP address to identify potential vectors for bad actors. Our goal is to provide the most accurate data for threat detection, so please contact IPQS if you suspect this is a false-positive." Comment: In a long email to-and-fro with IPQS' Technical Director, I proved that their entire analysis was based on false facts, false inference and grossly incorrect assumptions, apparently to generate a lot of false positives for marketing. Consequently I was wrongly denied access to a web site on the explicit basis I was a spammer / scammer as indicated by IPQS, and I consider that IPQS libelled me by falsely claiming: 1) My IP was VPN exit point - they didn't understand that my ISP offering a VPN service means that they exit elsewhere on the internet - how dumb is that?; 2) my strong Browser privacy settings indicated I was a hacker; 3) open ports were nefarious (but an independent scan did NOT show the ports they claimed); 4) my IP address was a direct source of SPAM emails but it was not in ANY publicly available spammer IP address list; and 5) my visit to their web site at their request was me visiting "a honeypot". Not a SINGLE piece of credible evidence to support their false positive - IMO so far from credible that it constituted fraud and libel. It should not be necessary for you to have to prove your innocence by challenging a grossly false positive claim by IPQS - they need genuine evidence that will hold up in court BEFORE labelling your IP address bad and effectively labelling you a scammer and / or spammer. If YOU use an IPQS indicator on an IP address to deny service, IMO you are open to a potential lawsuit for discrimination and/or libel. IS THIS A RISK YOU WANT TO TAKE? EDIT 2: TrustPilot have just informed me that they have put this review back online after IPQS accused it of being defamatory. "We're just following up about your review of ipqualityscore.com, which was flagged for containing defamatory content. ... We've assessed the content flagged by the business, and determined that it's not defamatory. Therefore, we've put your review back online." IPQS know that this is a fact-based review by an IT knowledgeable individual, based on an actual situation and EXTENSIVE email discussion with their Technical Director because THEY HAVE THE EMAILS TOO. This SLAPP-style action is a typical tactic when facts don't back up a company's own hype and IMO reflects badly on IPQS. EDIT 3: Pseudo friendly email from IPQS despite having previously sent them a Cease & Desist notice. "I can tell you are very talented, so any and all info will be very helpful!" Yeah right!! Also attempted gag: "CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE: The content of this email is confidential and intended for the recipient specified in message only. It is strictly forbidden to share any part of this message with any third party." Yeah right!! EDIT 4: New response from IPQS: "For anyone reading: IPQS risk scores are probabilistic signals derived from continuously observed network behavior — they are not accusations against any individual, and they update in real time as conditions on an IP address change. IP addresses are frequently shared, reassigned, or routed through infrastructure their current user isn't aware of, which is exactly why we score risk on a spectrum rather than issuing verdicts. IPQS does not block anyone from any website; each business independently sets its own risk thresholds and combines our signals with their own data to make decisions." EXACTLY!!! They make guesses, then they tell others that you are a scammer / spammer without ANY real evidence. Also, did you spot the lie: "continuously observed network behavior" - what a whopper!! They do NOT have hooks into the internet such that they can continuously observe traffic from every IP address. My own score was V. high - with literally zero verified evidence behind it. IMO highly libelous. P.S. Also too stupid to learn NOT to add fuel to the dumpster fire.
