I have worked in production for most of my adult life. However, I always wanted to be involved in the writing process and have played with the idea for many years. I signed up to the Script Reading course which was an excellent introduction to that side of the industry. The tutor was friendly, engaging and clearly knowledgeable with plenty of practical experience in the field. More than anything the day was a source of inspiration and an affirmation that I am determined to push on with my career change.

Script Reading Course: It was a really great day which gave a very broad overview of how to write script reports and get into becoming a script reader. Would definitely recommend to anyone starting out in this industry.

I found this course very helpful as it gave an overview of everything to look for when reading scripts, as well as the current state of the UK film industry and the different ways to try and get a job in this field. The course comes with a whole list of contacts to work your way through and you even get the chance to write a practice script report. There is certainly a lot crammed into one day, however, this is really all you need to get the gist. I would recommend this course to people of all abilities, especially those who are in definite need of a morale boost.

I attended the course on 31 January 2014, having meant to book for a long time beforehand. Clashing dates had meant this was the first time I could attend, but I wish I'd found a way to go sooner, as we got a fantastic all-round approach to script analysis, from the industry-facing elements (knowing the market, the niches, the trends) and structural considerations. Jon Gilbert is a terrific tutor - knowledgeable, patient and very approachable - and the day went very quickly. The notes and handouts are plentiful but there was lots more to jot down, making for a comprehensive overview. An expensive course, perhaps, but good value for money.

There's a lot of ground covered in this one day course. The tutor was excellent. There are pre-course materials and also a post course assignment that is marked - this helps in making the course good value for money.

I attended the Effective Script Reading Course at the end of December. Well worth it. A really useful, informative and enlightening day. Not only were we taken through the key skills that any good script reader will require but we were also given illuminating examples and tons of course notes to aid us. Equally, we were given lots of info about how to get further work, eg. cold calling manner, tracking down good leads and researching your clients. The tutor was a professional with years of industry experience and made, I say again, the 'ton' of info easily digestible with his nice, structured approach...much like a well prepared piece of coverage! 10/10, Day well spent.

I've just done the Effective Script Reading Course and am still absorbing its insights a fortnight later. The day was packed with all the essential information and awareness you need to make it as a script reader. The fact much of the afternoon was dedicated to hunting down work and the potential career ladders made this course really stand out and be incredibly practical. It didn't feel like an information overload despite how much was imparted because at the end of the day I was buzzing. It told me a lot about the realities of the British film industry too that will be very helpful in my scriptwriting as well as my script reading. The great bank of information you take home with you, gives you a great foundation to delve deeper. One day brilliantly spent. It's up to me to motivate myself to make full use of it.
