Hi George, thanks for the honest feedback, that kind of input is genuinely useful for us. Would you mind sharing a bit more about what you tried? Journalist outreach is a tricky use case because our data is built around B2B company domains, and a lot of journalists either don't have a public email on the outlet's domain, use editorial inboxes that aren't tied to a person or in many cases webmails that are not part of our scope (we only focus on professional emails). Knowing which outlets and what searches you ran would help us figure out whether there was something we could have done better, or whether you'd genuinely be better served by a tool built specifically for media databases. Hi Rick, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry Hunter didn't meet your expectations. To give some context for anyone reading: Rick purchased a yearly plan in November during our Black Friday promotion and contacted us for a refund five months later. During that time, our team worked through his specific use case in detail, shared targeted search links for the companies he mentioned, and put together a Discover search covering 1,200+ hospitality and healthcare companies across 14 Caribbean countries (his target market). On the RocketReach comparison: when we looked at it together, Hunter actually returned more verified contacts for his target market. The difference is that we only show emails we've confirmed are real and deliverable, whereas other tools often surface profile data and personal email addresses that can't be used for professional outreach without legal risk. To answer the user follow up: finding people by name and company name or domain is possible in Hunter. As the tool is built for professional outreach, we require including the company where the person works at to identify the professional email address. This is done to: 1st, target the specific person you are looking for (ex. there are multiple people with the same name) and 2nd, to ensure the search results are relevant to your outreach (ex. you are not reaching out to a person who works at a company that doesn't match your target market). On the refund: we explained our position clearly, including the promotional pricing that had been applied. We understand that wasn't the answer Rick was hoping for. Hi Sean, Thank you for sharing your feedback — a 60% bounce rate is definitely not what we'd expect and doesn't reflect our accuracy rate, so we wanted to make sure we looked into this properly. Thank you for sharing more context about your use case. Targeting academic institutions is a very specific case worth highlighting: universities and research organisations typically have strict email filters that block incoming messages from external senders by default — meaning what appears as a bounce may not be an invalid email address at all, but simply the recipient's server rejecting the message externally. This would affect any email tool, regardless of data accuracy, and is quite different from what you'd see with commercial organisations. We're sorry Hunter wasn't the right fit for this particular use case, but we hope this sheds some light on what may have been behind those numbers. Hi Nikola, To clarify, since Hunter handles sensitive B2B data, users who sign up with a generic webmail address are required to validate their identity. This includes a LinkedIn verification step, and is unfortunately necessary due to some illicit usage we've experienced in the past. Based on what you've described, it seems your LinkedIn profile may not have contained enough information for our system to verify your identity, such as a profile picture or any professional /academic details. As for the videos, these are simply onboarding videos to help you get the most out of Hunter — once completed, they unlock additional free credits on top of those already included in our free plan.
