HotelCollection.com is a rip off
On 6/14/24, I placed my first order with HotelCollection.com (hereafter, "HC"). The total was $184.91. First impressions are important, and my first order did not go smoothly. Shipping charges are outrageous while shipping is slow. HC makes a small fortune on shipping charges. My order was relatively small and contained one hourglass diffuser, one diffuser oil for the hourglass diffuser, and one car chauffeur. Total weight was 3.6 lbs. HC uses Fed X Smart Post to ship, which is slow and cheap despite my being charged $24.90 for shipping. Fed X Smart Post is an inexpensive way of shipping because Federal Express does not complete the delivery. The invoice is difficult to decipher because in addition to being charged $8.74 for California sales tax, the receipt reads the following taxes were EXCLUDED when in reality they are included. These include San Mateo County tax 25% $.36; San Mateo Co. Local Tax SI 1% $1.46; San Mateo County District Tax Sp. 2.125% $.72; and San Bruno City Tax 0.5% $.72. A true and copy of the receipt is attached. I do not recall EVER having been charged for the extraneous San Mateo County and San Bruno City taxes. If that isn't bad enough, once my order shipped, I received notifications from Federal Express and HC that my order shipped in TWO packages. The tracking nos. provided are 275937363991 and 61290308731421534091. However, when I asked HC about this, they claim to know nothing about two separate orders. On 6/17/24 I received two emails from Fed X (attached) stating that my orders would be delivered the following day, Wednesday, 6/18/24. Once I receive a tracking no. I like to monitor the status of my order. When my order failed to arrive on 6/18/24 without explanation I was not pleased. On 6/20/24, I received two more emails from Fed X as well as emails from HC indicating my orders would be delivered that day (Thursday). When my orders failed to arrive on Thursday, I reached out to HC asking why they sent me emails saying my orders would be delivered that day but received no response. I also began contacting Fed X to inquire why they sent emails on two subsequent days stating my orders would be delivered. I was told that I need to contact HC because they arranged for shipping via Fed X Smart Post. Incredibly Fed X could not tell me when my orders would be delivered. I consider this shipping method inefficient given that for the past three days I was sent both text messages and emails indicating my order was out for delivery. My orders were delivered yesterday. To avoid this shipping disaster from happening again, I contacted HC customer support to inquire that if I were to place a future order, could I choose to have Fed X fulfill delivery. In other words, I was willing to pay more for shipping so that Fed X would fulfill delivery. The response was no. Finally, I advised HC I have my own personal Fed X account so if I were to place a future order that shipping could be billed directly to me and that way I can control delivery of my order. I received no response to my inquiry. Amazon sells HC diffuser oils. I would prefer to buy on Amazon and save the pricey shipping and added county and city fees charged by HC. On top of that I will receive my order in two days as opposed to one week. In closing, HC is a rip off. On top of an incredibly high shipping fee for slow shipping, they charge extraneous city and county fees you are not typically assessed. Finally, customer service is horrible and does not respond to inquiries.
