HORACE MANN IS A SCAM AND TREATS CLIENTS AS DIRT
DO NOT OBTAIN YOUR INSURANCE FROM HORACE MANN. I joined Horace Mann Auto Insurance as a first year teacher nearly 60 years ago. I do not drink alcohol, take illegal drugs, or drive recklessly. Over all those years, I had a couple of accidents, but nothing serious and caused by others. When my catalytic convertor was stolen, Horace Mann refused to pay even though the district manager for the company to which Horace Mann directed me for a replacement catalytic convertor explained that all other insurance companies were paying in full. After a long hassle with Horace Mann, I got about 10% off the bill. I should have left then. As I am on a very meager fixed income, I contacted Horace Mann to explore alternative auto policies which would cost less. The only offer was to speak with their department which works with other companies. I explored on my own and obtained a policy from another, very reputable insurance company for a fraction of the cost of anything Horace Mann offered me. I contacted Horace Mann on October 6, 2026, to terminate my policy. The Horace Mann representative assured me, when I questioned if I would be billed for October, that he was contacting the billing department immediately. (The effective date for the policy which Horace Mann offered me started October 10, 2026. The Horace Mann premium deducted from my bank account for all the years I have had that bank were deducted on the 16th of the month.) I was even sent a letter from Horace Mann confirming that my auto insurance was cancelled effective 12:01 am on October 6, 2026. As of the afternoon of October 19, 2026, I was promised in a conversation with a representative that billing was looking into what amount Horace Mann would refund as my policy started September 29, 2026, a date which never appeared on any document to me nor mentioned in any previous conversation. The representative on the 19th stated that my records noted that I had been sent an email on September 30, 2026, alerting me to the September 29 date. I checked my email, both using a search on "Horace Mann" and on "horaceman" as well as checking every email on the 29th. They lied to me; there was no email from them. Further, they promised to call me back with more details regarding why they were not returning my premium or only part of it. They did not. HORACE MANN IS A SCAM. They overdrew my bank account, costing me overdraft fees; ruining my credit; bouncing regular payments from my bank account, resulting in higher interest on some; and preventing me from accessing the funds that were in my bank account so that I an unable to buy food or gas. Meanwhile they are getting interest on my money. Their actions are not just greedy, but cruel. B U Y E R B E W A R E.
