Booking.com + QANTAS–ALASKA & HAWAIIAN AIRLINES Partners: A Masterclass in Passing the Buck
Our experience with Qantas, Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Booking.com was nothing short of a nightmare. In June 2026, we missed our flight after Qantas issued me a boarding pass containing an error, despite the fact that I had presented my passport at the counter. A mistake at the airline counter left us dealing with the consequences — and, unfortunately, the situation only got worse from there. Because we urgently needed assistance, we contacted Booking.com on the day. Rather than helping us resolve the problem, we were simply directed to contact Alaska Airlines ourselves. When you are already dealing with a disrupted international itinerary, being told to chase another company is hardly what you expect from a booking platform. We then spent **approximately SIX HOURS** trying to reach Alaska Airlines via SMS, online chat and phone. Despite the urgency of the situation, we received no timely assistance that actually resolved the problem. Eventually, we had no choice but to purchase replacement tickets with another airline **at our own expense** just to continue our journey. And what happened afterwards was arguably even more frustrating. Since then, I have repeatedly sought compensation for the 1600 AUD **out-of-pocket expenses we incurred**. Instead of taking responsibility and resolving the matter, we have been left dealing with different companies and effectively being passed from one to another. This experience has taught us a very expensive lesson: when an itinerary involves multiple "partner" airlines, the passenger can apparently end up being the one responsible for sorting out the mess when something goes wrong. We paid for a service. When that service failed, we expected assistance and accountability. Instead, we spent hours trying to get help, paid additional money out of our own pocket, and are still seeking a satisfactory resolution. **Based on our experience, I would strongly recommend thinking twice before booking a complex multi-airline itinerary through Booking.com.** And if you do, be prepared for the possibility that when something goes wrong, you may find yourself on your own. For us, this was not simply an inconvenience. It resulted in **lost time, significant frustration and additional expenses**, followed by a deeply disappointing lack of accountability. That is not the level of service or accountability we expected.
