I wrote to Good Dog about an issue I had with a breeder. They responded in a timely manner to each of my emails, but the messages (all from different people) were basically the same; i.e., "sorry about the problem with your dog." Although they said they would investigate the issues, I believe that all they did was talk to the breeders and have them answer questions. They didn't actually go and observe the "facility," which is really crowded and dirty; thus, my pup was quite ill when we got it. They simply said the breeder met their standards. So you can interpret that however you want. Obviously, I'm not too impressed or happy about the "help" I received, which was no help. I'm not so sure that a Good Dog rating really means much at all.

No response from breeders
Sadly I put in applications with a few breeders… and not a one has responded. At least let me know what the status is. I will say that the support team has been great….it is just the breeders that are frustrating.

Losing ground
A bit over two years I was excited for the opportunity to be a part of Good dog, and proud to go through the vetting process in order to have my breeding listed. Over the past year I have watched anxiously as several of the leadership that were admired within the industry left, and watched doodles begin to take over, and saw Good Dog embrace mixed breeding programs for financial gain. And now, Breeders no longer need to be fully vetted. Random checks of health testing instead of vetting each program in its entirety, no acknowledgement that a square dog and a rectangular dog bred together are likely to provide joint problems regardless of what the parents ofa scores are, and in fact allowing these test promoting mixed breeding and giving buyers a false sense that there will be no problems.
When I tried to speak to my representative about these concerns, my account was turned off! It did get turned back on, but really, this is becoming a haven for back yard Breeders faking it as good Breeders. You’ve lost credibility with good Breeders and are now losing credibility with the general public.
I have more than one star with the hope they might improve and also because their payment platform is a good option.

Every member of our breeder community, no matter their breed, must pass our screening process and meet or exceed our community standards before joining Good Dog. We take a holistic approach to evaluating a breeder’s whole program. Our team comprehensively considers many aspects of a breeding program, focusing on five key areas: breeding practices, physical health of the breeding dog and puppies, mental health of the breeding dog and puppies, environment, and buyer education and policies.
We are also excited to share that we recently introduced a Health Toggle feature to our website, which allows our breeders to share their dogs’ health test files and links directly on their profile as a way to educate the public, improve canine health and well-being, and provide transparency to puppy buyers.
