I purchased a puppy form a breeder on this site for 1500.00 dollars and wound up having to pay an additional 5000.00 dollars in vet bills. The dog eat a collar and a harness under the breeders care. The breeder name is River Bend Malamutes (Brenda Bowen Phelps). Do not buy from this web site or this breeder. It seems like they only care about the money, not the animals welfare. The cost of the surgery was not coved by the breeder or the good dog site. They try to get out of it any way they can.

Hi Leo,
Thank you for reaching out. We’re so sorry about this difficult situation, and are glad that a member of our Care team has already been able to work through this with you, as well as communicate with the breeder on your behalf to reach a resolution, including coverage for the cost of surgery due to this accident.
As our team shared with you, we take enforcement of our standards incredibly seriously and have a process in place in which we conduct an independent investigation of all complaints in order to ensure that our standards are enforced consistently and fairly. In line with this process, our team reviewed all documentation provided and determined that the breeder is in compliance with our Community Standards at this time.
We hope this answers your remaining questions, and we’re always here to support you, so please continue to reach out to us at [email protected] with any questions.
Warmly,
-The Good Dog Team

DO NOT buy a bulldog from Gooddog and…
DO NOT buy a bulldog from Gooddog and breeder Sophie Thompson of Oklahoma. I paid a premium price for a English Bulldog that cant be registered. I contacted Gooddog and they did not help or try to stand behind their product.

If you're a dog lover avoid this place at all cost
If you're a dog lover, I strongly advise against visiting this site. Despite claiming to screen and feature reputable breeders, it's actually overrun by backyard breeders lacking proper registration for their dogs. Most “breeders” fail to provide pedigrees, refuse site visits, or even a simple FaceTime to show the animals' living conditions. Some breeders constantly advertise new litters every month, questioning the integrity of their breeding practices. Promoting such breeders, despite boasting about careful screening and care for animal welfare, is completely unacceptable. It's better to seek out local breeders, conduct your personal vetting, and trust your instincts. Be wary of sites that promise "secure transactions" while facilitating transactions for unscrupulous breeders preying on unsuspecting customers. These practices are misleading and should be legally challenged. If you've been affected by these scams or offered merely a partial refund, please reach out to me.

Hi Kristina,
Thank you for reaching out. We’re glad that a member of our team has already been able to connect with you and share more information about our Community Standards, Good Breeder Code of Ethics, and Policies, and how they may apply to an individual breeding program.
As they mentioned, all programs that are recognized on Good Dog must meet our Community Standards, Code of Ethics, and Policies (linked below), and may be subjected to periodic audits to ensure that our Community Standards are upheld.
-https://www.gooddog.com/breeder-code-of-ethics
-https://www.gooddog.com/good-breeder-center/good-dog-article-toc#good-dog-policies
We understand that our Compliance Team communicated with you what additional steps would be needed from you to ensure our Community Standards, Code of Ethics, and Policies are upheld. Should you decide to make the necessary changes to your program in line with our Standards, we’d be happy to re-evaluate your program at the end of the six month timeframe our team communicated to you.
We understand that not everyone will agree with our approach, but we know that you, as a dog breeder, are working very hard and that you have a breeding program to be proud of. We continue to wish you all the best.
Kind Regards,
Good Dog Team

Worst experience ever
We connected with a breeder in Athens, GA
I purchased my dog on GoodDog. The breeder’s name was C&E Royal Shih Tzu. They also go by the name of Royal Kennels. Erica Ortege is the person that sold me my puppy. I paid thru GoodDog to make sure that I was covered just in case something went wrong. I purchased my puppy on 4/5/2024 and she passed away on 4/8/2024. The day I picked her up, on the ride home, she had watery poop and wouldn’t eat any food. She did drink water. She wasn’t running around playing nor walking. I just thought she was scared. I couldn’t get her to eat all night. The next morning, she only wanted water and she had watery poop again. I went to the store to get her some milk replacement just in case I still couldn’t get her to eat. Later she had watery, bloody poop and started vomiting up water and blood. I called her vet to make an appointment and I also called the ER Vet. The ER Vet felt she has parvovirus, so I took her to ER Vet and they test her for parvo(which she didn’t have). They told me that usually before a puppy is placed into another home, they usually would have been given a parvo shot and dewormed. Long story short the ER Vet discussed with me about gastrointestinal. She also started to treat her for inflammation, nausea, gave her fluid injections under her skin, probiotic, panacur and ondansetron. The sent us home with meds and told me not to feed her until after two hours. She still wouldn’t eat so I feed her with a bottle to get food into her. I stayed up all night keeping my eye on her and giving her food every two /four hour as well as water. Sadly, she passed away 4/8/2024. We sent the breeder and GoodDog an email. The breeder said she was sorry to hear that and that the dog was walking, running as well as eating well when she was at her house. There’s no way a dog would get that sick in that short of time. I never seen this puppy walk, play, eat on it’s own from the time I purchased her. I purchased under GoodDog because they claim the breeders are good and verified. GoodDog should be on top of this mistreatment and the conditions the breeders keep their puppies because in the end, GoodDog's name is there. I’m very disappointed and very stressed with the situation. GoodDog offered us $250.00 to cover a deposit for another dog if we purchased another dog from them, as well as our GoodDog fees, but we can’t get the money back from the breeder for the purchase of the dog. The breeder, Erica Ortege, stopped emailing, texting and taking calls from us and GoodDog. GoodDog needs to have a refund policy put in place for the breeders to abide by if a puppy is very ill and passes away within 30 days of selling a puppy.

Gooddog is a SCAM!
This service is a SCAM! Read the other 1 star reviews. Their experiences mirror my own. Gooddog does not even know their breeders. The breeders are un-vetted. If something goes wrong the only help you'll receive is un-answered phone calls and service and administrative fees. These scammers should be jailed.

Hi Tony,
We understand that you had a great experience with one of the programs on our platform, Starlight's American Cockers, and that everything went well with your puppy pick-up.
After taking a look at your account, we do not see that you have connected with any Good Dog breeders other than this program, and are not sure if your review is related to an experience you might've had on a different platform. We see that a member of our Care team has already reached out to you to learn more about any misunderstanding or miscommunication that might have occurred. You can feel free to respond directly to their email, or reach out to us anytime at [email protected], so we can learn more about your experience and see how we can help.
Warmly,

Unprofessional and Poor Communicator
I do not know Jennifer personally, this is not an attack on her as a person, she may be great. My experience with her has been very frustrating and unprofessional.
I put a $700 deposit for a puppy last August. I did not receive a single update from her about a puppy until I reached out last December. I had no idea if I had a puppy or not. I reached out in January and February with nothing definitive and still unsure if I had a puppy. Even this week I still didnt know if I had a puppy for me or when I can pick him up. I think you get the point.
Come March, she gave me a choice from 3 puppies but did tell me that the cobreeder would keep one and that she would update me afterwards. She never did.
I asked for more pictures or a video and I never recieved anything.
She told me she has a litter of 8 1/2 week pups that would be ready in 3 weeks. I asked if we could pick one up in May (she keeps the pups for 12 weeks). There was no response so I asked for an update and she seemed upset. She then responded to my wife instead of me. She said she would charge to take care of the puppy (which makes sense and is fair).
She also rescinded the option she gave me to pick a puppy and said that is not her policy. However I never asked to pick one, she offered it.
I expressed my frustrations about waiting so long with her not reaching out to us at all and not telling me I had a puppy. I live around 1100 miles from her. With zero heads up I can not plan for getting the dog. I asked for the deposit money back so I can put that towards getting a Basenji from someone else. Before we paid the deposit she said she might refund us and that it is really case by case. She refused and she told me I am a person who is "used to getting what I want". If you're looking for a quality dog, are spending $2800 and will have that dog for 15 years or so, wouldn't you want to get what you are looking for?
Her communication and responses were unprofessional and very frustrating. Now my family is out $700 and after waiting 7 months for this breeder we still don't have a basenji.

Worst experience ever
Worst experience ever. We connected with a breeder in CA, put down a deposit and made arrangements to TRAVEL to CA to pick up the pup. Breeder stops answering messages after deposit is paid. Called GoodDog, they said breeder was 'removed from the platform' but wouldn't tell me why. Then they actually had the b*lls to tell me to reach out to the breeder on my own to arrange pick up. REALLY? So they give me her number- it's a McDonalds. Turns out their vetting process is BS- good thing they returned my deposit right away, but they made me 'prove' I tried to reach the breeder outside of their platform. Scam all the way around.
Sorry kids, no puppy this weekend.

We do not recommend using Gooddog to…
Edit in response to Gooddog:
The issue at hand is that reviews can only be seen on an individual breeder’s page after the transaction is completed. We understood from the beginning Gooddog could not help get our deposit back or help communicate with the breeders. But there is no way to warn others of this breeder if the deal falls through. The breeder consistently changed her story and became hostile towards us, which is a shame because we really did want that puppy. He was a perfect puppy ,but we couldn’t go through with a deal with someone who treats their customers like that. And we want others to know.
Original comment: We do not recommend using Gooddog to find your puppy. Their review system almost only favors the breeders. Your review would be posted on breeder’s website only if you completed a transaction. Otherwise your review will be listed on Trustpilot as a general review, not under the Breeder.
Stay away from Top Notch Cocker Spaniel. The breeder started off being very positive and helpful, but left out lots of details about their schedule so we were never able to pick up the dog we had a deposit on. In the end, we were blamed for not meeting their schedule that they didn’t mention in the beginning, for asking them to do things when they had volunteered to them without our asking first, and in general getting more hostile as time went on.

Hi Jon,
Thank you for reaching out. We’re glad a member of our Care team was able to connect with you already, and work through this situation with you.
We understand that you did not complete any transactions to this breeder via Good Dog, and as our team shared with you, per our On-Platform Payment Policy, we are unable to offer assistance with transactions that occur outside of our platform.
