Host beware — platform does not protect against unpaid overtime
I am extremely disappointed with my experience as a Giggster host. A renter exceeded their booking time and incurred overtime charges. I reported the issue, expecting Giggster to assist with collecting payment since the booking was made and managed through their platform. Instead, after the renter’s payment failed, Giggster closed the claim and refused reimbursement. Their response was that I should have had a signed walkthrough report and submitted a booking update during the event. The issue is not that Giggster has procedures — the issue is that their system allowed a renter to receive additional usage of my space without successfully collecting payment. The financial loss was placed entirely on the host. I have used other platforms, including Peerspace, and have not had this problem. Their payment protections and handling of additional charges have been much more reliable. Based on this experience, I no longer feel comfortable listing my property on Giggster and would caution other hosts to fully understand the risks before relying on this platform.

Hi Crystal, We are sorry you’ve had a negative experience with your booking. Please note that unlike platforms that provide accommodation, we facilitate production and events, which can be more high-impact and are often associated with overages. For this reason, hosts are instructed to have a certain level of in-person control over what is going on during the booking. The host or a designated location representative must send the renter a Booking Update request if they see that the renter is likely to go overtime, has brought on more guests than booked or has incurred other overages. For the renter to continue using the location outside of what has been initially booked, they must accept the Booking Update. The renter will be instantaneously charged for the overages and an extra payout to the host will be initiated. The feature is available for 6 hours past the booking end time. Charging a Security Deposit also provides a safety net for potential overages. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need help with anything. Best regards, Giggster Client Services
