Lack of Urgency- Prior Authorization
3/28 I had an appointment for a medication refill. I made it clear I would be out of this medication by 4/14 and require the next dose 4/21. 4/4 I followed up with Galileo because my tasks in the app said the meds were ready for pick up. They weren’t. I was informed that a refill request had been submitted the previous week. 4/13 I check in again with my pharmacy, they still can’t fill the medication. 4/15, I reach out to Galileo asking for an update on where this request is in the process. I am informed they just sent in the prior authorization and also expedited the request. Now, I acknowledge I may be partially at fault for not starting the refill process sooner. I know it can take 3 days to a few weeks for meds that require prior authorization. Which is a whole separate rant. Once insurance approves, it can take a few days for the pharmacy to fill. But, as medical providers also knowing all of that, why was this request not moved forward with urgency by the Galileo team at the beginning? It’s not just stressful, it’s harmful to have gaps in medications, and the lack of urgency and transparency has caused additional stress and anxiety for the past few weeks, which is so disappointing when it comes to medical care. The process of prior authorization and UHC are also to blame for causing such frustration for consumers. Although the Galileo care team was responsive and helpful looking into this, the initial failure to expedite, the confusing website, bare bones app you are required to use, and issues with the process and system have been very disappointing. This experience, and previous ones with other providers UHC has used, are definitely driving me away from virtual care, even though I am the ideal millennial consumer for it.

Hi Blair, thank you for your thoughtful and detailed feedback. You're right—we had what we needed to meet your needs and didn’t deliver. I’m sorry we let you down; you deserved better. It looks like the team is now working with you directly in the app, so I’ll leave next steps in their hands.
