I opened a FreshPet Roasted Meals…
Fresh Pet is in conversation with me & they are in the middle of assuring me that the recipe is safe for dogs & cats. It is interesting to note how strong the smell of garlic is. While it is lovely smell to people & now i don't need to worry anymore about how much harm it may have done to my little dog. Maybe FreshPet should let everyone see the answer they sent me to put everyone's, for those that are interested, minds at rest. I opened a FreshPet Roasted Meals packet two days ago and notested a smell of garlic. Two days later I remembered the smell again & look up online if dogs can have garlic in there food. The answer to my surprise was a definite NO. I'm so worried about this as I have been feeding it to my Cavalier King Charles. I can't believe that FreshPet did not know this as it is poison to dogs. What does FreshPet have to say. I would be very interested.

Hello Sheila, Thank you for reaching out. We value the opinions of our pet parents, and we are happy to address your concerns about garlic. We try to make food for dogs and cats that is as close as possible to our own human food in terms of quality and palatability but ensuring that the special nutritional needs of their diets are covered. A bit of garlic provides an aroma that both people and pets recognize as appealing, so we use it as an enhancer of the flavor and the aroma. We have also ensured with veterinarians that the levels used are completely safe. Many of our rolls and roasted meals do contain garlic, but at less than 0.1% of the total recipe. To reach a level of toxicity, large amounts of garlic would need to be eaten to cause illness in dogs and cats. The amount used in Freshpet recipes is at very low levels and should not be associated with problems. Additionally, the garlic component that is toxic to dogs and cats is the allicin chemical. A more general term, allicin is the “smell and oil” when you crush the garlic. Our garlic powder contains less than 0.2% allicin, which is very safe to be used. We appreciate you allowing us to explain things on our end a bit further. The Freshpet Care Team
