Hello Bill, As advertised on our home page at www.FreeTaxUSA.com, the federal return is $0. On our website, the preparation and e-filing of your federal return is always 100% free. We never charge any fee to e-file any return. We do charge a small, flat fee to prepare your state return, but each return includes all supported forms; we will never charge more if your return is more complicated. There is no obligation to file your state return, however, and you are always welcome to try it before paying to see if it works for you. Should you not want to pay using your credit card, there is an option to pay using your refund, which does include an additional fee that is disclosed immediately should you choose that option. There are no fees to pay via credit card. Colorado's website states that most refunds are received in 3-5 weeks after e-filing, which would mean you can expect your refund around 2/16 - 3/2 (for returns accepted 1/26). https://tax.colorado.gov/refund Our customer support agents are happy to help you free of charge via email and you may reach them any time by selecting the support option in your account. Hi Laura! We're sorry you were not satisfied with your filing this year. While we are still waiting on a few state tax agencies, we are completely up to date federally. There are a few states that we are waiting hear back from as they are late finalizing updates for the year. Thank you for reaching out to us. When you select to pay our fee with your federal or state refund, you set up a temporary bank account with Civista Bank, a division of the Santa Barbara's TPG group. This bank account information is printed on your federal and state return and e-filed to the IRS and your state along with your direct deposit information. The IRS and your state will deposit your refund into the temporary bank account (shown on the return), our fees will be extracted, and the remainder will be deposited into the direct deposit account you provided. If you haven't yet received your refund, please first track your refund's release with the IRS and your state. You can find the IRS refund tracking tool here: https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund Once your refund is released from the IRS and/or your state, it will be sent on to TPG to withdraw our fees and issue the refund. Once you see that the IRS or state tax agency has released your refund(s), you may check the status of your refund at this link: https://taxpayer.sbtpg.com/login The timing of your refund is in the hands of the IRS or state tax agency. They do not update us with refund delay information or details regarding to changes of your refund amount. Hello! Thanks for taking time to let us know about your experience. We do notify customers on multiple screens, including the initial pages of the process, that e-filing a 2023 prior year return is currently only available to customers with an IP PIN. Our website charges a fee to prepare your state return. That is, we charge a fee to calculate your tax due/refund and place the correct numbers in the right place on your tax forms. This fee is the same regardless of whether you e-file or mail a paper return. If you ultimately choose not to file after making payment, we ask that you reach out to our customer support to request a refund instead of initiating a chargeback, which costs us the fee paid plus additional fees.

Hey Joe, I am sorry you ran into issues with your tax payment. I have sent you a request for information if you would like me to look into what happened. Please include the email on your account in your reply. This is very unusual since we cannot change dates for payment in your account. If you entered a date, it sounds like you selected electronic withdrawal as your payment method. Electronic withdrawal payments are handled directly by the IRS or state-we do not touch any payment funds. The date you give is the earliest they are allowed to pull money from your account. Typically, they will not process your payment until they are done processing your tax return. If you are now getting late fees and penalties for late payment, you can reach out to the IRS and state and prove that you did give authorization for on time payment and should not be penalized due to their delay. For security reasons, they will not discuss the processing of your refund with anyone not listed as a taxpayer or spouse on the return, including the tax preparation service you used to file. We guarantee the accuracy of our calculations based on the information entered. If the IRS made an adjustment, they will mail a letter that explains the adjustment.
