This was my first time filing my return with Freetax USA it was quick and easy I'm a very happy customer. It didn't charge me a lot like TurboTax I'm looking forward to filing again next year.

I’ve been using this site for a few years, and it’s worked very well for me. The main reason I started using it is that it could handle all of my forms without an additional charge, unlike some other “free” sites. The interface isn’t perfect, but I’ve always been able to find what I need, and I haven’t encountered any technical issues that I can’t get around. I would definitely recommend that anyone who feels they don’t need professional preparation and who wants to save some money try out this site.

I read some of the negative reviews, and it seems either technical issues or unique situations were an issue - honestly, this is a free service (for federal taxes, $15 for state)! My taxes are not simple W-2 1099's, and after 5 years and numerous oddball situations, I have yet to run across anything the software couldn't handle. I cannot recommend highly enough!

Earlier this year, I discovered that I had some unfiled returns. TurboTax could not be used, so I searched for a solution. Having used FreeTaxUSA in 2020, I reached out to them. They still had returns active for the years I missed, so I used them to fill out my missed federal and state returns. As a result, I received around $400 in refunds. When I start my business, I may need to use a different service, but for now, FreeTaxUSA is my go-to choice for simple tax prep.

Hi Milece. You can go through the state software to see if it works for you, and if not, you can remove the state return from your order on the "Your Order" screen. It also sounds like you may have chosen to pay for our services by having it deducted from your refund. There is an additional fee for this service. If you pay for any of our optional services using a credit card, there is no additional fee. If you have already reached out to Support about this, we would like to follow up on your experience. I'm unemployed so needed to choose a free tax software via the government website that listed several tax partners. Out of about 8 options there were only two choices for me based on my state and income and whether I wanted to pay for state filing, (uh, no) and so I watched a review on each service by a young lady on Youtube. She hated the other one and liked FreeTaxUSA so I trusted her and chose them. Best decision! Everything was clear and easy except for the the charitable donations section which I had to delete and start over. The keywords on the clickable boxes just weren't as clear as they could have been and it kept taking me to the same charity instead of allowing me to input another one. I deleted and started over and then was able to get through it with no problems. That was a very small problem compared to how easy it all was. Not sure if they have a paid option so we could use them instead of the ever-increasing price of TurboTax, but if they offered one, I would use them. For now, if you are low income, absolutely use them. I noticed in the past few years that TurboTax was unclear on some points, but every time I clicked the "info" circle on FreeTaxUSA, it told me everything I needed to know. Never once left me in a lurch. It's quite possibly even clearer than TurboTax. Don't hesitate!
