A nonprofit and globally local re-gifting and re-use network, each group is moderated by a local volunteer who keeps things flowing along. It's like a cyber curbside, or a family-friendly and scam-free Craigslist for free stuff, keeping good stuff out of landfills to the tune of 32,000 items a day in over 5,000 local groups. Find your local group on Freecycle.org and let the re-use and de-cluttering begin!

I registered years ago but never used it. We tend to put stuff on the Magic Curb outside our house. But some items are just a bit esoteric or too nice. My husband and I have recently used Free Cycle and we are thrilled! We leave items on our front steps in boxes or plastic bags. When I get a contact I also attach a JPEG of our house to make it easier for them. I only wish I had used Free Cycle years ago!

Great concept
I've used freecycle for years, getting items for myself and my daughter when she moved into her first home and needed everything.
I've also rehomed lots of unwanted items myself and normally the recipient is very grateful.
Fantastic idea!!
Unfortunately this last couple of weeks I have been unable to access the site, I just keep getting "Freecycle is not responding" message.
Is there something wrong with the site at the moment?
Thank you for the help I can now access the site.

Thanks for your review! (and for the great story!). We're not getting issues registered at help at freecycle.org so I tend to think it may be a specific issue. Are you sure you are visiting freecycle.org (not freecycle.com or .net which are "fake/ad" sites)? If you clear out your cache and are on the right page... then write [email protected] and our volunteer team will help you out! Stay safe and stay well, Deron

Fabulous concept which I fully support
Surprised to see so many bad reviews. I have used free cycle in oxford to give away good appliances still working, curtains, items of furniture, Crockery/ kitchenware. Perhaps I’ve been lucky - I’m not giving away utter crap and I’m delighted it all goes to a good home. I’ve Even met some of the people I’ve freecycled too. I’ve had moments of realising that there are some on this site that I’d rather didn’t take advantage of this but by and large I’ve been thoroughly satisfied and promoted this site widely with many of my friends. It’s a great concept and I fully support it.

Freecycle is BRILLIANT
The concept of Freecycle is to prevent unwanted things going in Landfill.
So instread of a trip to your recycling centre you put up a free ad and choose from a number of people that express an interest.
Each group has suggestions and warnings.
Now whilst there are people who put up stuff that is not possible to use (like a smelly mattress) and there may be the the odd person who does not turn up, overall FREECYCLE IS BRILLIANT.
I have managed to completely replace almost all my houshold possessions and given mine away.
I got an LCD TV and gave my neighbour mine.
I got a superb fridge freezer, a washer drier, full lenth curtains, £400 glass shower panel (unused), £2500 wardrobe, a second TV for the bedroom, 2x £3000 electric recline leather sofas (gave one to my neighbour), Juicer, Expresso Machine, Bread maker, Slow cooker, Microwave, Ikea Bookshelf, Ikea white Glass computer stand, selection of energy efficient light bulbs, and a plethora of other things.
It is not all about getting free stuff, I give stuff away too and even deliver it if local. I also get large items such as fridges and decent beds for my local church who give them to the recently housed homeless or those in need.
Freecycle has even got me into recycling I take apart Laptops and PC's recycling the parts and giving them away working. I also get vacuum cleaners which often just need a deep clean or refurb to get them working again so they can be given away free.
The most common thing advertised is moving boxes, people then put them back on freecycle when they have moved.
Baby clothes and pushchairs are also common.
Freecycle is run by volunteers mostly, you can donate to support it.
Personally I think it is brilliant, it is disappointing to see negative review by entitled people who think they deserve some high level service. Honestly it is a not for profit, you obviously take precautions, you can leave stuff on your door step at an agreed time so there is no invonvenience.
A friend of mine uses freecycle to deal with their shopping obession which turned into an ebay obsession, now they just get stuff for free and avoid the debt they got into.
I get the Freecycle daily updates, I do not need much now but I keep an eye out for friends and neighbours. People give away amazing things than have lots of life left in them
One company gives away a van load of pallets delivered free for projects or firewood even.
This review is also to say thank you to all the people that use freecycle, either giving ot receiving.

Thanks for the review, JP! Come this spring keep an eye out for a site relaunch which will include a new bit: Friends Circles. You'll be able to create your own group, say of friends, or members of your church, or neighbors within which you may also share items. And, with Friends Circles one may also lend items: say a neighborhood tool group, or a book club, or parents sharing kids stuff, etc. Should be fun to see how creative people get with this new option... Best regards, Deron Beal

Good idea to get rid of items that…
Good idea to get rid of items that still have life in them

Thanks for your review, Michael. Look for a site re-do coming out by year's end that will also enable gifting *and* lending of items in your own personal Friends Circle -- a more trusted option, for example, for, say, lending tools, or books, etc with your friends. Stay tuned. :-)

I LOVE Freecycle!
I love Freecycle! I have been a member for years and have received so many wonderful items: A fish tank with all the equipment, a wonderful print of the spot where I was married, an antique office chair to refurbish. I have also been able to gift others with a truck load of used things instead of having them send to the landfill, including some ripped jeans that someone took for patching pants and making a quilt.

Hey, thanks for sharing! I've always enjoyed giving and getting things over the years as well. Generally, I just use Freecycle to clear out old stuff, but my first "get" many years back was a George Foreman grill. Turns out the couple lived just a few blocks away and I was able to walk over and got to meet new neighbors. Then, they offered me dozen eggs while I was there. What a treat! Instant meal, right there. ;-) Hey, just FYI, keep an eye out for a site re-do roughly in January which will also enable folks to set up their own personal circle of friends to gift things to (and to lend things to, but, shh, that's still secret...).

Basic but awesome
In a selfish world it is so refreshing to see a website where people who have things of worth want to pay it forward and let others benefit from its use. So basic but I think that is why I like it, its a great representation of the purpose. Simply to share the wealth with those who need it.

Awesome
Always great in my local community with free items and a great way to remove what I no longer need
