By way of background, I own about twenty fountain pens: including a FPR Himalaya II, already. I've thought of myself as a somewhat serious fountain pen hobbyist for just a couple of years. The qualities I appreciate most in a pen are the "feel" of the nib, build quality, reliability (no hard starts or skipping and no leaks), comfort in my hand (I wear medium large gloves) and value. By "value," I should note that I own a Pilot Custom 823 for which I paid $290 and a Narwahl Schuylkill for which I paid $60. I consider each to be an excellent value. That said, I now (after a week's use) consider the FPR Guru to be an excellent value, too. I purchased it on sale with the flex nib and paid $9.00. It checks all the boxes mentioned above. In addition, though it is smallish compared to all my other pens, when posted it is just fine in terms of length and weight. I doubt I could use it unposted. Its relatively slight diameter doesn't trouble me, though it might be a minus for some. It is more like the three vintage pens I own than it is my modern pens. I purchased the orange demonstrator to use with a Irushizuku fuyu-gaki orange ink I've had for a while and like very much. It is an excellent match for the ink, which cost more than the pen! The nib does not afford as much line variation as the ultra flex nib on my Himalaya II, but it is smooth with just a slight amount of feedback and has just the right degree of wetness. The piston fill mechanism works smoothly and fills the barrel with about a millimeter of ink, I would guess. That is, about half the amount of ink I get when I fill my Custom 823. There are details I didn't expect on a pen this price: a "gem" as the finial for the cap; two metal cap bands and a very "solid' clip. In sum, the Guru is a very good pen and an excellent value IMHO. Finally, the service from FPR was, once again, first rate.

FPR pens are second to none! I love the fact that they are so very easy to disassemble, clean/service, and reassemble. They are beautifully crafted, attractively and tastefully appointed. Their nibs are spot on, and seem to come well tuned. The screw-in converter is safe, neat, and very convenient. For acrylic and ebonite pens of this exceptional quality, backed by some of the very nicest customer service people around, you are getting a Way Awesome Pen at a PHENOMENAL price! I bought 4 pens from FPR so far and they all had no problems what so ever. The Himalaya had the most beautiful sheen and a nice #6 nib. The Indus has a good ultra-flex nib. My Kanwrite Desire was unused for a month and when I uncaped it. It wrote right away no problem. It is getting to be one of my go to pens. And now I'm trying the Dejeeling with The ultra-flex nib. So far I'm really beginning to like these pens with #6 nibs.
