If you're black
If you're black, DO NOT SHOP HERE. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR $. Although most don't discriminate against $green$ it was our black skin that caused myself and my daughter's best friend to be profiled the afternoon/evening of Sat, 6-29-19. As we entered the store there was one other customer, and several employees standing about. My daughter and her friend (who later informed me how they watched us the moment we entered) began looking around. Someone (butch looking "girl", wish I'd gotten her name - fair skin, black hair pulled back in a ponytail), asked if we needed help. I replied sure, my daughter is looking for Adidas, she asked her size, I told her. I asked if they had a changing room. She replied yes, she left our side only to retrieve the key. Later returning to let us know, someone was using it, but let her know when we were ready. Short time later, I motioned her, she walked us to station, let my daughter in. And as my daughter's friend and I waited outside, this pos stood in watch and walked impatiently back n forth right by us the entire time. Watching like a hawk, and as I walked over to knock on door to ask my daughter if she needed help, the employee followed, you know, to make certain I wasn't knocking for my daughter (was her 15th birthday), to hand me the garments to stow away in my Ralph Lauren bag. Lol. DID WE LOOK LIKE THIEVES? HELL NO. But we ARE UPSET. I'm sure I've been profiled before and never recognized it. But who am I, Oprah has more money than most, she experienced it. If you're black - you are not immune! Ah, I failed to mention three things. 1) the white person in changing room before us, did so unattended. That person probably had a happy birthday. 2) A black woman and her son walked in as we were about to leave, and you could've guessed it, the guy there zeroed in on them. She also probably had more money in her account then he, college educated etc! Again, it matters not to these poorly trained (both at home and workforce), racists people. 3) the others in the store were white, unattended and probably stealing. It was my daughter's birthday! She asked for 1 thing - Adidas gear. We were all prepared to spend $100's. Thanks to your racists employees, whom you've no doubt trained to "watch the black people" (meanwhile others are making out the back) VS Pink and Macy's got well over $500 that day. This goes to show no matter what you look like - classy, wearing prada sandles, Dior dress, Ralph Lauren purse and more money in your account than any of these "customer service workers" combined, if your skin isn't white, you can and will be seen as nothing more than a bad person. I, nor those I know, as I spread the word all over this city and social media, will ever frequent this place again.
