I tried them out for 2 years straight… my credit never moved on ‘their’ behalf. When I inquired and questioned about this, I was told to “use the card more”. I used the card for multiple transactions and even started paying bills with it. Would have to frequently deal with double charges cause bills wouldn’t get their money from them on time so they’d either charge their card again, or they’d charge my bank card as the backup on file. Still never saw even a 1 point credit boost from them in the entire 2 years. You’re paying them for headache at the end of the day. They tell you transactions takes 3 business days to clear but it doesn’t, it takes anywhere for 7-10 business days for their transactions to go through. So there will be a 1-2 week delay with anything you decide to use the card for, and sometimes for whatever reason the app randomly will unlink your bank and the charges get kicked back or rejected because of that. They’ll allow companies to do whatever they want with your card information and will never flag for multiple transactions. Even when the company refunds the other double transaction, extra kicks the refund directly to your bank account, but they still want you to pay them that money. Your refund for a double charge is what they want. They will not help you if something goes wrong! If you try to cancel, they’ll hassle you about that and drag that on as well. They are a joke… I’m convinced half of these reviews are paid reviews. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Hey Christina, we appreciate the opportunity to address the points of concern you’ve brought forward in your review. Extra pays for all of your purchases upfront. So when new, or reoccurring charges are made to your extra card, so long as there are enough funds in your connected account, the charges will clear. Meaning that purchases will only decline if there are not enough funds in your connected account at the time you are attempting to transact. So for this reason it’s important to keep funds in your account around the time when your bills are scheduled to pull, or some vendors will revert to another form of payment you have on file with them. In the case when a merchant overcharges, the best course of action is to resolve that directly with them. However, Extra can always offer the recourse option of disputing the duplicate charge or overage amount in the dispute network. The standard processing time for transfers ranges from 1 to 3 business days. In this timeframe, your bank balance may fall below the necessary threshold for recollection, resulting in a failed payback. Until the funds have been fully processed, you can monitor both your in-flight transactions and your real-time bank balance using the Extra app. In instances where a payment fails to be collected, our system will automatically retry when it detects a sufficient balance. When it comes to establishing and building credit, the timeline in which you see changes to your overall score is incredibly relative to the individual. As you know, there are a number of components that are factored into your score, but it really comes down to consistent, long-term use that demonstrates your positive payment history. In a recent study we conducted with Experian, it showed customers have on average a 48-point increase, as long as they exercise healthy financial behavior while using our card. Regarding your account closure request, we are unable to close your account due to an unpaid balance that resulted from a payment stop initiated through your connected bank. To resolve this issue, we recommend reaching out to your banking institution to remove the block, allowing us to recollect the funds. Once the payment is fully processed, we can proceed with your cancellation request. We do apologize for the experience you've had as it's far from the impression we would want any of our members to leave with. If you'd like additional support or have any account-specific questions, please send an email to [email protected], and our team will happily assist you.

The minute you enter your SSN they will open something called “a trade line” and if you decide you don’t want this service (which you will very soon after you realize it takes more points than it gives you or deeper in the application that this seems fishy) they will already have this line of credit open and if you choose to close it, IT WILL DROP YOUR CREDIT SCORE!

I joined in July and now it’s November and my FICO is way up but Extra is not listed as one of my accounts. I recognize the 7 accounts that are there. And you will never get a live person on that phone number listed on the card.

Crooks. Stay away. Customer service is rude, sarcastic and no help at all. Will not let you cancel easily. Stay far far away.

I experienced credit card fraud 9 days ago and can not get anyone at Extra to assist me. They have now taken close to $3K out of my savings account in fraudulent charges. Extra took away their "live" help. They no longer have a help desk you can call into, or live chat thru their app. Each time I reach out, I get a voicemail at the help desk or an email that says the same thing from a different person "I’m following up with you concerning your recent call. You mentioned you needed some help with fraudulent charges on your account, so I’m transferring you to the appropriate team for assistance. Please allow them up to 24 hours to reach out to you..." and then NO ONE reaches out to me! This is my life savings people!!! DO NOT USE EXTRA THEY CANNOT HELP YOU RECOVER YOUR FUNDS!!! This is just unacceptable and I have NEVER experienced such terrible customer service. I had to go to my bank to shut Extra down from continuing to extract fraudulent charges from my savings account, so now I am receiving emails telling me they are going to report me to the credit bureau for non payment. They are really screwing me over and still NO HELP! I am single, living on a single income, with a small savings and they have managed to take that from me.

Hello Amanda. Firstly, my sincerest apologies for the alarm this recent activity on your account has caused. The last thing we would want is for any of our members to feel distressed or unsupported when dealing with sensitive account issues. I have brought your concern to our Disputes manager who is reviewing your case in detail. You will be hearing from them soon and they will be able to speak to what happened here.

I read the fine print for the card and there is no way that poor people can build credit with this card as there is an annual fee of $150 to $200 a year. This may not seem like a lot but, when you are poor, it adds up quickly and credit score will drop rather quickly as the fees add up. I'd rather go with a Debit card from the bank and be done with all of this credit building nonsense, besides, you cannot save money with these cards because the cost of living is rising and can result in being homeless or not having electricity for your household. This is just another way to demolish your credit which means no money to buy houses, cars, etc. By the way, PNC came out with cashback rewards cards of their own without hidden fees. Because of this, I will not consider using this card when I open my Bank Account with PNC. I do not trust this company for building credit as it actually leads to more debt and card deactivations.
