Autopom! is a scam. What they don’t tell you is they are simply a middleman, and they aren’t actually backing up the warranty. If the company they use for the warranty doesn’t want to honor the warranty for any reason, there is literally nothing they can or will do to honor the warranty. This company has NO INTEGRITY. I purchased a warranty from them because of their smooth-talking salesperson. He promised it would cover my vehicle and that I could rest assured the CEO would honor the warranty. He told me the only thing I needed to know was there was a one month and 1,000 mile period that nothing would be covered to prove there wasn’t any preexisting condition. That sounded fair. We bought our vehicle and drove it for over 6 months and thousands of miles. Then one day, the vehicle started having issues. Long story short, the engine had gone bad. When we tried to get the warranty to cover the fix, they wouldn’t. The warranty company hired someone in Texas to do a background on my vehicle and they called a mechanic shop in Ohio where my vehicle was taken by a previous owner (I never met this person because I bought my vehicle from a dealership). During this visit, there was the possibility given that something might be wrong, but it would be thousands of dollars to break down the engine to check and the owner declined. He then decided to sell/trade in the vehicle for something new. The agent in Texas determined that this meant my issue was probably a preexisting condition and they declined it. There was no proof and the fact we drove it for 6 months and thousands of miles meant nothing. They just decided they thought that was proof. There’s no appeal process and there’s no way to even talk to someone who can help. When I talked to the person in Texas he was apologetic and said this is what the company hires him to do. They literally hire someone (third party) to try and disqualify the warranties. Autopom! uses this company and they don’t care. The CEO talked to me on the phone and said that after reviewing the audio recordings of my sales call that the sales agent “oversold the warranty”, which is a nice way of saying he lied to me. Later the CEO reversed his opinion when I challenged the integrity of him and his company and said everything was handled correctly. I want to be clear that the CEO of Autopom!, Michael Jones, said that how I was treated was correct. Autopom! is ok with the warranty companies looking to disqualify the warranties. PLEASE NOTE – every positive review for Autopom! is for the interaction with the salesperson and not the warranty coverage. The company is a scam. RESPONSE TO THEIR RESPONSE: You will see that he did not refute a single thing I wrote. NOT A SINGLE THING. They are are a third party that have no ability to back up a claim. The adjuster found something in my vehicle's history before I bought it that is impossible to determine what it was. What they deem as “A breakdown that is reasonably determined to have existed prior to the contract purchase date of the date coverage takes effect" can be ANYTHING THEY DEEM REASONABLE. There is no appeal process. If they don't want to pay, that's it. Not only is this company unethical, but they go and try and respond to every negative review by acting like they did the right thing. The CEO and Owner Mike is unethical.

Thank you for your review, Matthew. To clarify a few things, like our competitors, autopom! is the retailer of vehicle service contracts. The Policy Administrator, a 3rd party, is the obligor of the contract (the legal entity obligated to perform under the contract). The Policy Administrator makes all claim decisions per the terms of the contract. The Policy Administrator’s employees that review claims are called Adjusters. In our position as the retailer, autopom! has zero incentive to see claims denied. We want our clients happy so we can continue to earn their business, as well as any referrals from friends or family. A vehicle service contract protects your vehicle from unexpected mechanical and electrical breakdowns per the terms outlined in your policy. One of the terms from Matthew's policy under the section, “Exclusions from Coverage” states the following is excluded: “A breakdown that is reasonably determined to have existed prior to the contract purchase date of the date coverage takes effect." When a claim is filed, Adjusters are required to do due diligence which includes reviewing maintenance records, speaking with the repair shop, verifying diagnosis, and reviewing the CarFax. This is a standard procedure that all Policy Administrators perform. In this case, the CarFax had an entry from just prior to the policy purchase date that caught the attention of the Adjuster. He contacted the repair shop that filed that entry to CarFax and received a copy of a Repair Order from them. The Repair Order was dated 04/19/21, five weeks prior to the policy purchase on 05/25/21, and diagnosed a serious engine condition including a quote for an engine replacement. The previous owner of the vehicle declined to have those repairs made and promptly sold the vehicle. It is extremely unfortunate that Matthew was not informed of the engine condition when purchasing the vehicle, however the Adjuster had no alternative but to deny the claim because the pre-existing engine condition was clearly documented, and repairs were declined. Matthew came to us for assistance shortly thereafter. In preparing to respond to Matthew’s inquiry, I listened to the call recording from when he purchased his policy. I feel the sales agent did an accurate job describing the components that were covered by the plan. During the call, the sales agent described what distinguishes autopom! from the competition - our Customer Advocacy Program. He made the statement that the autopom! CEO would “get on the phone to make sure bills are paid.” On this point, I admit the agent's statement was imprecise and may have "oversold" the customer on what my involvement can accomplish. The agent was referring to the CEO making sure bills are being paid per the terms of the contract. Unlike many companies in our industry, I want to ensure my clients are treated fairly and claims are being paid per the terms of each contract sold. If a client feels they are not being treated fairly or their policy administrator denies a claim that the client feels should have been paid, I will always have my team investigate the issue and see if there are grounds to appeal the denial. I appealed Matthew’s case to the claims manager at the Policy Administrator’s office and was quickly shut down due to the documentation clearly outlining a major engine problem that was not repaired. Matthew requested cancellation of his policy after the final decision was made, and I chose to provide him with a full refund due to the circumstances.

what I find funny is the majority of (if not nearly all) the 5 star reviews are from those who have purchased the policy, but haven't yet had to make a claim. and all of the 1 star reviews (like mine) are *****after***** a claim has been filed. coinky-dink? (sic) my simple point: ***most*** of you folks are going to be VERY disappointed after making a claim. or, you should wait to post your autopom review until AFTER a claim is made...as you'll realize autopom is just a third party seller that does little if anything for you after the claim is made. (heck, the guy that sold me the policy was gone 6 months later, which was one of the many reasons given by autopom for my difficulties) while the money I paid in for 7 months *was* refunded by autopom, neither autopom OR Omega (the company I was paired with for claims) did ***anything*** for me, at all..... except cause me grief and leave me without a car and a huge bill at my shop for the teardown. after following all the rules/jumping thru all the hoops (accurate odometer, drive 1K miles, pay my premium, check engine light came on, and I religiously followed what-to-do, here's what the end result was: -----I owed $1400 to the shop for the teardown, and needed to get the vehicle off of their property within 2 weeks -----there were $26,000+ in repairs to be made to the vehicle, thru no fault of my own. the ***only*** covered repairs, according to autopom/Omega, is about $900 for the driveshaft THAT IS LESS THAN FOUR PERCENT!!!!!! and only half of the repair cost was related to the denied claim. that means for the remaining $13K, the policy would have paid $900. less than a dime per dollar of repairs. -----AutoPOM (and Omega) did ***nothing*** for me, other than refund my money...for doing nothing!!! and when I say nothing....no tow (or offer to tow) to the shop. no offer of rental car reimbursement. heck even right down to even zero alternate suggestions to salvage some sort of value out of my ruined vehicle that they refuse to cover. my synopsis: BUYER BEWARE!!!! regards, -Steve Hagar

I first learned of Mr. Hagar's unfortunate situation with his Dodge Journey when I was notified of this review posting. I immediately called the policy administrator and Mr. Hagar to get the details of the claim. First, it is important to understand that autopom! is the marketer / broker and the policy administrator, a 3rd party, makes claim approval and denial decisions per the terms of the contract (emphasis on the word "contract"). Autopom!'s position as a broker/marketer provides us with zero incentive to see claims denied. We want to see our customer's claims paid. A vehicle service contract protects your vehicle from unexpected mechanical and electrical breakdown per the terms of the contract. One of the terms of Mr. Hagar's contract under the section titled "Exclusions From Coverage" states the following is excluded from coverage: "For any repair cost due to contamination of any kind". Mr. Hagar's coolant had become contaminated, apparently due to mixing of two different coolant types which overtime, caused a chemical reaction resulting in a thickening of the coolant which clogged the engine and cooling system causing catastrophic damage. Chrysler has published a Technical Service Bulletin (07-004-120 warning about topping off or mixing coolant types. This was due to no fault of Mr. Hagar. The incorrect fluid mixup occurred during the previous ownership of the vehicle. Unfortunately, the contract does not state that the cause of contamination has to have occurred during the current owner's ownership - it just states that repairs for contamination of any kind are excluded. In my experience claim denials due to contamination are rare. In fact, Mr. Hagar's was my first. Due to the age and mileage of Mr. Hagar's vehicle, the Powertrain Enhanced policy was the only coverage plan the vehicle was eligible for. Repairs due to contamination are excluded in all plans we offer regardless of coverage level. autopom! represents multiple policy administrators and contamination of fluids is specified as an exclusion in all their contracts. As to Mr. Hagar's admonition for buyers to beware, that is good advice. There are scams out there but autopom! and our BBB A+ Rated and Accredited policy administrators are not a scam. As to Mr. Hagar's statement that autopom! does not care about its customers, well, that is not true. I think Mr. Hagar was referring to the policy administrator not realizing we are two different companies. A little online research will illustrate that autopom! cares deeply for its customers and as Mr. Hagar noted in his review "autopom!'s customer service is highly rated. I was and am extremely sympathetic to Mr. Hagar's unfortunate situation. On behalf of the customer, I spent several hours making many calls to the claims supervisor at the policy administrator and the service advisor at the repair facility in an attempt to see Mr. Hagar's claim covered. I also had several conversations with the customer. In the end, there was nothing I could do except give the customer a prompt full refund for the entire cost of the policy. Lessons learned: 1) Mr. Hagar's case reminds us that buying a used car comes with risks and you cannot transfer all that risk to a third party. The reason we exist here at autopom! is to mitigate or minimize the risk of buying a used car. As this case illustrates, a vehicle service contract does not entirely eliminate your risk as certain conditions are excluded from coverage. Read the contract! 2) When buying a used car, along with having it inspected by a qualified mechanic, I would recommend getting the coolant flushed because you just don't know if some well-intentioned technician, at some point in time, has topped it off with the wrong coolant!

There are no auto repair shops authorized by Autopom anywhere within 100 miles of my town (population over 100,000) and that includes all dealerships (Ford, GM etc etc). That means if a repair facility does not want to partake in Autopom paperwork the warranty is useless. My vehicle is at Ford now and I’m hoping they will partake when finished but it’s an unknown at this time. So far I’m not impressed at all.

Hi Jim, I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. Your policy allows you to take your vehicle to any ASE certified (that stands for Automotive Service Excellence) repair facility. That includes just about any independent repair shop or dealership nationwide. We do have a partnership with Repairpal.com/autopom where you can find highly rated repair facilities but that is entirely optional. You should be fine at the Ford dealership. Please give my office a call if you need any assistance with your claim (800) 724-8141 ext. 2.
