J.A.S.'s experience was only part of mine. (1) My book was published by Adam at Empire without my receiving an author's proof. This caused weeks of delays when the "team" was given a change, but Empire did not ensure the change was posted to the manuscript. (2) There was a lack of communication in the progress of the publishing. It took three change requests to get the cover corrected. Twice Emily failed to call on a certain day which she scheduled to go over changes. (3) My emails were often ignored, even when I asked Adam and Emily to acknowledge receipt. (4) I paid $198 for ISBN's even though KDP provided free ones. As recompense, Adam sent me $239 worth of books which were printed without the final changes. (5) Adam claims to have posted my last change, but when I telephoned Deepak at Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), he talked me through the process of making that change. Before I called KDP, the change was not posted on Amazon. The next day, the note that there were "unreviewed changes" to the book were gone. Deepak also stated that he'd never heard of Empire and that they don't use third parties.(6) EmpireBookHouse did nothing for me that I could not have done by myself with some customer service like KDP's Deepak. I have 2 1/2 single-spaced pages of things like I've listed above. I have published 3 other books with 2 other publishers. This last book took 3 months and I had more trouble with EmpireBookHouse than the other 3 put together. I started in January and only finished my last phone call with Adam on 4/17. He denied ever having done anything wrong.

Hi Dale, We’re genuinely sorry to hear that you feel this way, as this doesn’t reflect the experience we aim to provide. We’d like to clarify a few points for transparency. Your cover and manuscript were approved prior to publication, and revisions, including the color update, were implemented and confirmed with you. All change requests were completed within our standard turnaround window, though some delays occurred during back-and-forth revisions. We also proceeded with ISBNs based on your approval at the time and later provided compensation when your preference changed. Regarding KDP updates, our team did implement the requested changes and shared confirmation; certain dashboard notifications can sometimes be triggered by account activity rather than new edits. We respect your perspective and understand that expectations may not have been fully aligned. Our team did remain engaged throughout and delivered the final live version currently available. If you’re open to it, we’re still happy to connect and address any remaining concerns directly.
