Inaccurate DNA Relative Matching and Repeated Dismissal of Concern
UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO EMBARK'S REPLY: Embark's response here says they are sorry the relatives are "not aligned with my predictions." This framing is telling. My concern was never about predictions. It was about statistical impossibility. A street dog from Mexico with a highly mixed, non-pedigree background showing 100% Boxer relatives with zero variation is not a matter of expectation, it is a data integrity issue. The fact that they continue to reframe it this way, both here and in their BBB response, shows a pattern of deflection rather than accountability. I have now escalated this to the Better Business Bureau. Their response there was identical in substance to this one. No technical explanation, no acknowledgment of a potential issue, no offer to retest or refund. Just a suggestion to email them again. I am still waiting for a real answer. Until then, I would encourage anyone considering an Embark test to think about what kind of support you will receive if you have a legitimate question about your results. --- ORIGINAL REVIEW: I purchased an Embark DNA test for my dog. He was rescued from the streets of Mexico and is correctly identified as an American Village Dog based on his background. My concern is with the genetic relative matching results. Every single relative shown for my dog is listed as a Boxer. There is no variation at all in the results, which is not believable given that my dog is an American Village Dog with a highly mixed, non-pedigree street origin. I have raised this issue with Embark multiple times. Instead of providing a clear or technical explanation, my concern has repeatedly been brushed off. After days of review, I was simply told that everything is "fine," without any meaningful breakdown of how these results are being determined or why every match would be the same breed. It is not reasonable that a dog from a diverse street population in Mexico would only show Boxer relatives. I have not received a proper explanation or acknowledgement of this issue despite multiple attempts to resolve it.
