Put $10 on my account. Bought a card for $4. Around a year later went to access my account. It's still there but shows I have no credits. There's somethign very odd in the way ellacard handles people's money.

Thanks for letting us know about this—we're sorry for the confusion. Our credits don't expire, so your balance should definitely still be there.
Sometimes this can happen if you're logged into a different account than the one where the credits were added.
We'd love to help sort this out. Please email us at [email protected] and we can look up your account and make sure everything's in order.

Misleading Google ad, Cute card but way overpriced
The google ad labeled it as "Free - no sign up". Then, after you painstakingly designed your card, they told you it's $6 per card. What could you do? The card is cute, but not worth $6 as an e card, especially since you can't easily tweak it to send to multiple recipients with a personalized greeting (only the envelop name is customized for each recipient).
Updates in responding to the business' comment:
(1) I do have a screenshot of the sponsored google search result stating clearly
"Ellacard
(website link here, not allowed in review)
Virtual Thank You Cards Free - No Sign Up"
Too bad Trustpilot does not allow me to attach a picture to the review.
(2) The first item on the pricing page of your website says "Personal card, Signed by you only, $6 + 10¢ per recipient", which obviously is indicating that you could have multiple recipients even for a personal card, and for the different recipients, you cannot customize any wording in the card, only the name on the envelop - This is what my review was referring too. Nowhere on the pricing page explains that the greeting customization feature is only allowed in bulk order. And even so, it really makes no sense to not offer it for personal cards that has a higher base cost.
(3) At the bottom of my order confirmation email, it says "If you have a minute, we'd love to hear your feedback! Review us for a free card credit." I still have not received the credit for this review. Another false advertisement?

We are sorry you feel misled but we do not advertise our products as "Free" - that does not show up. We do advertise the fact that you do not need a subscription to use our products. The fact is in order to provide a high quality product that does not harvest your or your recipients' data, we have to charge. In regards to your second comment about having personalized greetings for each recipient, we do offer that feature! With our bulk order tool you can personalize messages to recipients at scale. You can reach out and we would be happy to share how.

NOT a "Free" card as advertised
This was advertised as a "Free" card...but I was charged $6.10. Very frustrating! That being said, I did like the finished product, but navigating the website was difficult. I had to redo the card several times before I could figure it out.

Hi Genny,
Sorry you feel misled about our pricing but we do not advertise anywhere on our site as having free cards. You can always check our available pricing page for more information. If you have further feedback on our website please feel free to reach out directly.

Not a free service
It is difficult to find pricing on the site, but offers both subscription and the option to add credit toward future purchases. Look for this before attempting to make a purchase; it is not discoverable from the check-out page. Note that cost is based on the number of people who sign the card/ add images, etc. as well as if it is a group-signed card or sent from an individual.
I did not find this to be cost-effective, and I don't appreciate the less-than-transparent pricing options. I will find another service.

Deceptive Checkout Experience
Ellacard is peak "we designed our check out experience for maximum revenue versus actual customer experience" design. Look, I work in tech and I understand you want people to "get to the end" but this feels deceptive. You pick your card, entire a little note, enter the email address. It's digital, how expensive could it be, right? $6.99 CAD?! LOL. WHAT? Why is sending a DIGITAL CARD more expensive than me getting an actual card, postage, and sending it in the mail? Of course they're going to bet that you've put too much work in to turn back now and ultimately checkout with your purchase. Zing!
Look, if you're a business, and you're going to send a bunch of emails to your colleagues throughout the year for various occasions, need a bulk signing capability, and want a little pizzazz in the process, maybe the subscription makes sense.
But if you're just an average person looking to sending a one-off card (from one person to one person), you're better off finding an alternative or even just sending an email.

Hi Nicole,
You are absolutely correct in your observation that our subscription plans make more sense from an economics standpoint. Having said that, we do not want to force customers into a subscription like most e-card services do, and so we offer one-time payment options as well. For those customers who do subscribe, we have focused heavily on building a whole suite of tools and products, including cards, videos, and invitations, in order to create as much value to our subscribers as possible.
I do think it’s a bit disingenuous to compare our service to a simple email or even a traditional paper card, when you can use the Ellacard form factor to include photos, videos, gift cards, and GIFs in addition to text on as many pages as you want, not to mention the remote group-signing aspect or that you can send / resend to multiple recipients and verify delivery. There are no comparable services that offer the same level of customization as Ellacard, and I hope as someone who works in tech, you can appreciate the complexity that goes into building these features.
All that said, I definitely appreciate your complaint, and frankly you’re right - we do prominently feature our multimedia card editor and push users towards it to demonstrate our customization tools that differentiate us from other e-card services. As a relatively young company with little public awareness of our product outside of clicking on an ad, we need that user experience to be front and center.
It may also interest you to know that we make no money on the majority of our users, and we do not share any user data unlike most tech companies, which our customers appreciate immensely. As the saying goes: “if you are not paying for the product you are the product”.
Please feel free to reach out to [email protected] if you’d like to continue the conversation.

Not working
Initially, I was pleased by its options. It doesn't let you crop pictures, but it's fine. When I was testing the card, i asked to send it to me for testing, but no matter what I did, I couldn't open it. I received several emails with the same code. I tried to unsubscribe, it put that since it's a test email, I cannot unsubscribe (as I'm not subscribed). Furthermore, it did say it's free on google and that's why I tried it. It didn't work for me.

Disgraceful
Disgraceful, states clearly fees not forced, then after you waste 10 mins you have to give payment details.
Cards are very plain and site is deceptive with false claims, avoid it save your money.

Hi Paul,
We are sorry you feel misled. We do not advertise our products as free anywhere on our site or our advertising. We DO say that you do not have to purchase a subscription to use our site, which is true. Just because you do not need to purchase a subscription does not mean we are free, and I would warn against using any sites that are free as they will likely sell your personal data. It appears that your poor review is a reflection of your disappointment that our product is not completely free and not our card selection or platform, which over one million people have enjoyed.
Regards, Ellacard
