I bought the Wood Shield Semi-Gloss interior varnish. So far, I have applied it to a test piece of wood (to be used for a kitchen counter) and it looks very good.

ECOS paints come in plastic, rather than metal, cans. They are shipped in boxes with foam and plastic packaging material. I very disappointed, as I was looking for environmentally friendly products.

Paint was packed perfect....no leaks there with those clips on paint can for protection...

I needed an odor free finish for use in a horse barn. I used ECOS Interior Satin Woodstain Varnish, which was color matched from a sample I sent to ECOS. Impressions: 1) Truly odor free when dry! Yes, it has a very, very mild odor during application- if you stick your head in the bucket! Otherwise, I used no respirator during application, and when dry, there was no residual smell! Note: I am very sensitive to both Latex and oil based finishes. I must use full-face respirators for any oil based finishes. 2) This is a very easy product to apply- dries to touch in 15 min (at 50 deg. F) No sagging on vertical surface. No sanding between coats to assure bond like traditional poly products! 3) Color matched to Sikkens product- cannot tell difference in comparison. Good customer service! 4) This is pricey product- but well worth the price if you need a Zero VOC product. Overall, I am very satisfied with this product, and I will use it again.

After refinishing my cabinets I was dreading sealing them because of the awful fumes that accompany most products. I used the satin varnish and it was very easy to apply, looks great, and best of all didn't produce a horrible odor. Yeah!!!

Being chemical sensitive and a very light sleeper (and frugal... lol), I wasn't looking forward to buying new bedroom furniture. Facing some tough decisions and a limited pocketbook I finally chose the IKEA Tarva series based on price, looks and a high solid pine content. Once assembled though, it was obvious - I wasn't sleeping in this room - the smell was overwhelming (apparently pine terpenes are a VOC too, albeit a natural one)... hadn't thought of that. I wanted a bare finish originally - but instead of fretting, I somehow stumbled on the Ecospaints "Air Pure" line. It gave me hope that I could actually seal in most of the smell, protect the wood somewhat and - as a bonus - have an air purifying effect all in one application. By the way, having clean air is doubly important at night, as this is when your sympathetic nervous system relaxes (the "fight or flight" response), leaving you quite vulnerable to air pollution. At $250 CAN for a gallon of the varnish (incl. shipping and exchange), it certainly wasn't a cheap option *gulp*... but it did offer me the perfect solution. Incidentally, I replaced the cheap, nasty fiberboard backs and drawer bottoms with "clean" HDPE (a food-grade plastic with no VOC's) and the wood handles with a brushed nickel bar type off eBay. Mind you, I probably could've just varnished over all them as well, saving me a few bucks. But the additions are stronger, higher quality and add a nice custom touch. The IKEA furniture is a pain to put together - and I knew that adding a varnish step would be incredibly time consuming for nine full pieces. It was. But totally worth it in the end, as the Ecospaints varnish did a wonderful job, even diluted with water by 25% (to stretch out my gallon). And I only did a single coat (the application guide recommends three for best results) I couldn't bear to triple my workload. Plus, I got the result I wanted anyway - the pine smell has been eliminated by about 90% already... totally manageable. In the end, I created a great looking, customized, practical, natural feeling pine bedroom furniture set... all for a very reasonable price. The biggest bonus feature being its health contributing zero VOC and air purifying abilities. Impressive. Couldn't be happier. Once my wallet recovers, I may even try out the Ecospaint shielding and purifying wall paints.

My first attempt to paint a wooden Lovebird cage. Color is perfect, but haven't applied second coat. I'm TRUSTING that if they're able to nibble some, they won't get sick. More to come

Absolutely beautiful color, application, finish and NO ODOR. I can continue my business indoors in the middle of winter in Wisconsin!
