Duke EnergyReviews of duke-energy.com

A total rip-off. Just got hit with yet another massive price increase. They are straight-up stealing from their customers at this point. It’s predatory, greedy, and completely unfair. Do not trust this company with your money—they will drain your wallet and offer nothing but higher bills in return.

Power has gone out again . Several times last year now several times this year and only 6 months in. Service dependability is poor and price is high and keeps going up of less service.

I received a HEAP credit on my account and Duke took the bill out of my checking account! After a long time talking with customer service, I asked to speak to a manager. I was put on hold two times. They told me that if I had auto pay it would still come out of my checking account!!????? Why, I asked. Response was “ that’s the way their system works!!??? I guess they are not smart enough to change their programming. I told them that I wanted my money back and take the payment from HEAP. They finally said they would refund me and use the HEAP credit. Here is some background information that Duke doesn’t care about: I’m an 82 year old on SS. I’m still able to use my brain!! They have no idea how much money I have in my checking account. They took the money anyway! If you are signed up for HEAP, turn off your auto pay. They don’t tell you what will happen. They don’t care, it’s all about the money!!

Power is out again at 6pm when most families are having dinner. This is the third or fourth consecutive outage this year. This unacceptable, the service is so unreliable that I can't work my primary job from home. I have to go to coffee joint or restaurant that offers free Wi-Fi to work remote.

At the beginning of April I received a payment into my account that read as "credit due" to me from Duke Energy. This automatically paid my March bill, and at the end of April I received my statement for the month, which stated that I owed $0.00 and had money on my account that was "credit, do not pay". However, this month (May) my statement was over $600, which was this month's electric bill and the credit amount deposited in April that had been used on my previous bills, which I apparently now owe. I called to dispute this charge as I had not received any emails regarding any billing mistakes and I was under the impression that those bills were taken care of with the credit. The representative then informed me after a brief investigation that I did in fact owe this amount because the "credit" was actually a payment which had "accidentally been applied" to my account instead of an account with a similar number. As a struggling college student who splits utilities with roommates I do not have this sum of money available and was told that I will have to pay it. I was given a payment plan which splits the amount into two payments, which will be added onto my July and August bills. Besides this menial gesture, the lack of responsibility taken by Duke Energy in this ordeal is shocking, I received no emails and was only able to get an answer about what had happened after an hour on the phone and two separate representatives and was offered no support for resolving this issue beyond the payment plan. This kind of negligence is appalling considering it took over 2 months for them to realize the mistake and I was not notified that it was a mistake just charged for the bills I thought were already taken care of.

Duke energy is a rip off . I work for the government (TSA) told them I’m not getting paid. I finally started to get paid the mid of April. I was back up on my bills. I owe Duke energy 303.00 paid 100.00 the beginning of May. Came down to 203. Do you know I got a notice while I was at work they are planning to cut my service off. Got home at 12 noon service was off. They cut my service off for 203.00 . Supervisor Ameera was no help. Told her recently started to get paid. It was cricket no sound then she just said ma’am you need to pay 203. She said it was due 25 which was a holiday memorial. Next which was Tuesday didn’t get a call or nothing until the 27th I get a text that my service is getting cut off. You guys are a rip off and take advantage of people because you know you have the power in your hands

Duke sucks. The power is constantly going out.

Horrible company. Rude, rude rude. Waste time and aren't helpful. Wish I could give them zero stars. Selling and moving. My next homestead will be 100% off-grid solar. Id suggest others do the same as these corporations view us no better than bugs.
