What a joke. Power is always out because they refuse to upgrade the line. Wait…didn’t they get a bunch of government money a couple of years ago to do just that? Oh yeah, must have went into management's pockets. Power has been out this time for 8 hours and counting. They can’t tell me what’s wrong or an estimated repair time. So I drove my line one end to the other. Pretty obvious a fuse popped out. Talked to the duke field repair guy in his big truck. His response “I know the power is out but we can’t find the source causing it.” Uhhh you’ve been driving around for 8 hours and haven’t noticed this huge fuse dangling from the pole? He then says “I gotta get back to work” and storms off. Sadly, the is the American standard we now live by. If you see a public school teacher be sure to thank them…

The staggering level of incompetence at this company astounds. Twice now in one year they have disconnected power to the wrong apartment. After the last incident we were assured that the problem had been corrected and would not happen again. It did in fact happen again, and this time while we were out of the house for a few days, causing us to lose the entire contents of the fridge and freezer. Oh, and when I called for help with the problem, I even asked if it was possible that they'd disconnected the wrong apartment again, and was repeatedly shouted over that this was not the case. So in short: Competence: 0/10 Service: 0/10 Honesty: 1/10 (and only because the tech onsite admitted they'd disconnected the wrong apartment, again)

I've never had a bad experience with Duke Energy until we decided to put the electricity in my husband's name. My husband doesn't have much credit so we expected his deposit to be a bit high, but not $358 high. On his confirmation page the deposit was only suppose to be $170. He paid the deposit on the first bill but then another $179 was added on the second bill, which made our bill $440! He called and spoke to two agents who couldn't explain why the deposit was so high. But one agent did say the total deposit is $358, so there will probably be another charge of $179 on the 3rd bill. We decided to pay to avoid the late fees. I just wanted to share our experience with anyone who will be signing up with Duke Energy. It is not okay to be charged that much and it seems a bit unethical to charge that much and not be given an explanation for the high deposit.
