Scammy checkout.
1) Forced credit check
2) Required me to login to my bank to show a credit card statement saying I booked
3) Added various charges like insurance and "upgrades" without consent
4) Added undocumented charges like "geofence" and taxes/fees on a prepaid car

Today is June 15, 2026. Do not rent a car from here. I ordered the rental on hotwire paid about 500 dollars. I get there. They tell me they have to do a credit check (new to me) tells me they cannot give me the car and I need to call hotwire for reimbursement. I was extremely furious.

1 Star – Worst Car Rental Experience I’ve Ever Had
My experience with Drivo Car Rental at LaGuardia Airport was by far the worst car rental experience I’ve ever had.
First, Drivo operates its own shuttle instead of being directly at the airport. We waited 35 minutes just to be picked up from LaGuardia, and I had to call them twice before the shuttle finally arrived. After that, the shuttle drove around other terminals picking up passengers, which added another 30 minutes before we even reached their counter.
When we finally arrived, the car we had reserved was not ready. They said they would upgrade us to a mid-size car, but then told me I had to pay an additional $60 for the upgrade.
The vehicle they gave us, a Hyundai Elantra, had multiple problems from the start. There appeared to be a loose plastic piece underneath the car, creating a constant noise, and air seemed to be leaking throughout the four days we had it.
The ride was extremely rough. Later, I discovered one of the reasons: the tire pressure was at 50 PSI, which is clearly overinflated for this vehicle. I have photos and video showing the tire pressure reading. Because of the excessive pressure, the car felt every bump in the road and rode extremely harshly.
Eventually, one of the tires went flat, most likely due to improper tire inflation. This made the situation even worse and confirmed that the tires were not properly maintained.
Because of these issues, we had to cancel our planned trip to Atlantic City.
We called Drivo to request a replacement vehicle, but they refused. Instead, they told me it was my responsibility. They even suggested I might be charged for repairs, which was completely unreasonable given the car's condition when it was given to us.
By the final day, we had just returned the vehicle and didn’t even feel it was worth arguing with the staff anymore.
I do not recommend this rental company to anyone.
UPDATE / ADDITIONAL DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE FROM DRIVO / ACE RENT A CAR:
★☆☆☆☆ – Second Terrible Experience with Drivo/ACE Rental Car
This was my second extremely disappointing experience with Drivo/ACE Rental Car, and it confirmed that I will never rent from this company again.
I booked through Priceline’s Express Deal and, because the rental company was not disclosed until after payment, I was once again assigned to Drivo/ACE—the same company I had hoped to avoid.
I paid the full rental amount in advance, including Collision Damage Coverage purchased through Priceline/RentalCover. On May 30, 2026, I arrived at the Drivo/ACE location in Newark, New Jersey, as scheduled, with my reservation confirmation and proof of insurance.
I did not cancel this reservation. I showed up to pick up the vehicle I had already paid for.
Despite that, the counter staff refused to release the car unless I paid an additional $290 for their insurance. I remained calm and respectful and explained that I had already paid in full for the rental and insurance, but they still refused to release the vehicle.
Afterward, I was denied a refund because they claimed I had agreed to a non-cancellation clause. That explanation makes no sense because I never canceled. I appeared at the Newark location on the scheduled pickup date and was ready to complete the rental. It was Drivo/ACE that refused to provide the prepaid vehicle unless I paid another $290.
Fortunately, the insurance payment of $130 was refunded. However, the remaining prepaid rental charge of $437.98 has still not been refunded by Drivo/ACE.
A non-cancellation clause should not be used to keep a customer’s full rental payment when the customer showed up and the rental company refused to release the prepaid vehicle under the agreed terms.
I have proof of the prepaid reservation, insurance coverage, my arrival for pickup, and my communications regarding the denied rental and refund request.
This experience wasted my time, added to my transportation expenses, and left me without the rental car I had already paid for. After two terrible experiences, Drivo/ACE is a rental company I strongly believe customers should avoid.

Insurance scam and paying customers for…
Insurance scam and paying customers for 5-star reviews. Stay away from Ace Rent-a-Car.
The counter person used high pressure sales tactics and lies to try to get me to buy the insurance. He said I had to purchase his insurance for $250 or he would NOT rent me the car because my insurance company would not cover me in NYC. As soon as I dialed State Farm on my speaker phone at the counter, he allowed me to decline the insurance. State Farm said he was lying and that State Farm would cover me in NYC. He wanted to charge me $250 for 7 days of insurance. State Farm charges me $500 for the entire year.
Ace is paying for 5-star reviews, which is prohibited by Google and Yelp. Their 4.3-star rating is over stated due to this practice. When I returned the car, the employee offered to give me 10% off on my next rental if I submitted a 5-star review in front of him and he took a picture of the 5-star review for his boss. This practice is unethical and overstates their rating.
I rented my car at 8 A.M and was told my receipt would be email to me shortly. That same night at 7 P.M. I started to receive harassing emails and texts saying I didn’t return my car.

Car rental is not in the airport and they request unreasonable insurance info
Car rental is not in the airport and requires a shuttle from the shuttle - i.e. there is a first shuttle (the air train) from the terminal to MOST of the car rental company lots, and you must then take a SECOND shuttle to Ace's/Drivo's lot. Took 45 minutes instead of just 10 and messed up my day.
Also requested copies of my insurance declaration page, never been asked that before from a US car rental location and intended to make you pay more for their insurance. SCAM.

Extras, Indifference, Pressure and Lack of Proper Maint.
Had to first wait for a shuttle to take us to an off-site location. At the counter, I/We were pressured to buy additional insurance and options the total of which would have more than doubled the cost of the prepaid amount
Got a car with damage and poor repair (no walk around offered).
Floor mat was so damaged that it caused a loss of control of the vehicle. I've opened a ticket with Drivo/ACE's customer support and the NJ BBB (of which they are not registered).
The only PRO was the shuttle bus driver who, upon seeing the trouble my wife was having getting into the shuttle, repositioned the shuttle closer to the curb so my wife could get in.
