1. Punctuation. 2. Community Property. 3. Error notes.
1. I report this issue annually. Please make the program more word processing friendly. If I am showing in a comment that there is a math issue - such as needing a \ when dividing by 2, it bounces. Example: using a cell phone for home and business. I need to divide the bill by 2 and want to show on the statement that this is done. 1364/2=682. I can't do this as no punctuation is allowed. Even a few symbols such as \ - = + would be useful. This makes additional statements difficult. I can't use a period (.) at the end of a sentence, which looks very unprofessional. It looks like a run-on sentence. It can be embarrassing with clients. 2. Community Property Statement. This needs to be operational. It should total and carry the adjustments automatically. I have a CA couple who file as RDPs. They choose not to get married and CA did not grandfather RDPs. This means Single federal returns and MFJ on the state return. This is complicated and takes too much time. I have to do their federal returns as Single, save as separate files, efile at least 1 of them, then go back into that return, erase the federal - with all the Community Property information in it - prepare the state return, save it, and hope that I got copies of all of the right versions. If there is a single mistake, no matter how small, I have to start over on that client. If I efiled the federal in order to reuse the return for MFJ, any error, no matter how small, now results in amended returns. This happened to a client last year and she ended up in ID Theft because the amended returns looked like duplicate filings. Please save the federal single return to a separate file. I have to be able to efile the federal returns, plus the MFJ CA return. There must be some way to fix this. 3. Please write the error notes in simple English. I have a return I am sitting on because I can't figure out the error. The person moved to a new state. Everything is correctly coded for each state, including splitting out Schedule C using the numbers for each state. I'm getting a strange message that won't allow me to efile one of the states. I've been over the return multiple times and cannot find anything wrong. There is no reason issues can't be explained in simple English. Error code 2087 (Drake only). NY shows the return as "suppressed." It is not. It says to check the EF tab. I have. There is no reason for this to be suppressed. If it had simple steps to follow, it would have been filed weeks ago. Thank you.
