Six years of loyalty destroyed by an algorithm.
I have been with this platform since 2020, originally through Smashwords. All of my novels are 100% original—written by me, not AI, not mass-produced, not plagiarized.
Without warning, my books were unpublished, and I was accused of duplicate content by their automated review system. When I appealed, I received what appeared to be AI-generated responses that ignored my specific situation entirely.
No human ever reviewed my actual work. No evidence was ever provided. Just automated emails and copy-paste policy responses.
Draft2Digital has failed its authors. Real writers with original work deserve better than being judged and punished by a machine. Avoid if you value your creative work and livelihood.

Unhelpful and rather rude customer service
More than 10 years ago, I published some ebooks via Smashwords and was quite happy with that platform. At some point, my account and ebooks were transferred to Draft2Digital. I recently had a look at my sale statistics and noticed something that cannot be right: one book on Kobo has over five times more ratings than reported sales. My book has been available for free on Kobo for many years, and not a single free sale has been reported. I reached out to customer service about this, and the experience hasn't been great. Overall, they basically started arguing using false arguments. The tone was quite condescending. When I asked them to simply check with Kobo, they stopped replying to my emails.

After four years of publishing with them, they terminated my account, stole my royalties, and all the while lied that they were attending to my case. Suddenly since December 2025, the have a "KYC" verification problem and the service is too damn lazy to sort it out. Not even the CEO has anything to say despite me emailing him with my immediate needed support.
Terrible publishers! Thieves!

Draft2Digital - Run by small minds and baseless threats
If you are looking for a book distribution service, I highly suggest that you go direct to the eBook services like Barnes & Noble, Apple, Kobo etc.
Skip using Draft 2 Digital because:
1. Their book enforcement and quality control methods are arbitrary and vague at best.
2. Their communication standards, appalling.
3. They threaten to pursue legal action for a made up crime.
I received a "PERMANENT PROBATION" email today after uploading two books which I created. Zero warning, zero prior communication. Account closed with zero recourse. I have a book that's been for sale with royalties due but I highly doubt I'll see a cent of it based on the other reviews.
To clarify, my books uploaded on D2D are for sale on Amazon. A couple of them are best sellers.
Businesses like these don't have your best interest as an author in mind. They take everything personally, operate like a mom and pop store by making baseless aggressive threats like a toothless tiger.
This is the email they sent, copy and pasted verbatim below.

Banned for life after they decided my book was written by an AI. Tbh, AI helped with the formatting and with shaping the structure, but all the content was mine — and apparently it's so "useless" that I have thousands of enthusiastic readers elsewhere. Are they running with the LUDDITES, in a foul race where more and more people shout "AI SLOP!" at the slightest sign of using new, powerful creative tools? Are they just appeasing the anti-AI crowd without even considering whether the tool was used properly? Sad.

Unprofessional Handling of Author Accounts
Draft2Digital closed my account unexpectedly, despite having legitimate published work. There was no meaningful explanation, no warning, and no real support provided.
As an author, this was emotionally stressful and professionally damaging. A publishing platform should support creators, not abruptly shut them out without clarity.
I feel let down by the lack of transparency and empathy shown during this process. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Draft2Digital to other authors
