Regarding Store Policy Enforcement
Regarding Store Policy Enforcement I was informed today that customers are not permitted to enter the store with an open tote bag. What I find difficult to understand is how this policy is applied so rigidly while, at the same time, customers may legally enter the store carrying a concealed firearm. The contrast raises an obvious question about consistency and logic in the policy’s enforcement. For the past three years, I have shopped at this location regularly and developed a respectful relationship with the store staff. I routinely brought a reusable shopping tote and made it clear to employees that they were welcome to inspect it at any time. Clerks were familiar with this arrangement and it was never an issue. It worked because it was based on simple trust and common sense. Unfortunately, that reasonable understanding ended today when a manager chose to enforce the rule in a way that was unnecessarily rigid and dismissive. No effort was made to consider the long-standing arrangement or the fact that I had always been fully cooperative and transparent. Policies exist for good reasons, but good management also requires judgment, context, and basic respect for customers who have demonstrated good faith over time. Today’s interaction reflected none of those qualities.
