Hi Charlotte, We understand the frustration here, but Dodo Payments is designed primarily for digital products, SaaS, and productized online businesses - not general freelance/manual service payments. This is part of our Merchant Acceptance Policy and compliance model, which means certain freelancer use cases may not be supported depending on the nature of the services being sold. We’d rather be clear about platform boundaries upfront than create problems for merchants later through unexpected restrictions. The amount (₹15,000) you’re seeing is a maximum mandate limit set by the bank/payment network, not the actual charge. The system sets an upper cap to allow future renewals or variable billing without needing repeated approvals. Customers are only charged the actual subscription amount, not the mandated limit shown. That said, we agree this can cause concern, and we’re actively working on improving how this is communicated during checkout to make it clearer. As a Merchant of Record, Dodo Payments is responsible for collecting and remitting applicable taxes (such as sales tax, GST, or VAT) based on the customer’s location and local regulations. This isn’t optional - taxes are applied where legally required, and we’re obligated to collect them to stay compliant with global tax laws. Because of this, there isn’t an option to “turn off” taxes. The benefit of this model is that merchants don’t need to worry about tax calculation, filing, or compliance across different regions - we handle it end-to-end. This means GST can be applied to customer transactions even if your own business has not crossed the ₹20 lakh threshold. GST is calculated on the total transaction value, collected from the customer, and remitted by Dodo Payments directly to the government as part of our statutory obligations. The collected GST is our tax liability as the Merchant of Record and is deducted from the gross amount before payout to you.
