Thank you, Yenimar, for sharing your experiences. We agree--a brief phone conversation is a great way, and one we often use, to clarify what we're looking for and achieve the best result. We do this by asking our clients to email us their questions prior to the conversation so that we can provide the best answers during the call. This approach also helps us deliver the best results to all our clients even during the busiest times when applications are about to open. We emailed you a couple of times to ask for your questions so we could schedule a call for you but never received them. Could you email them to us as soon as you get the chance so we can address them right away?

You have a great story to tell, and we have very much enjoyed assisting you with editing your various pieces--this time your query letter--as you seek publication of your manuscript. Yes, we always encourage our clients to review our edits carefully to ensure we have gotten them right and that the final version is how they want it. The most successful successful documents are ones that have gone through not just one round of editing but multiple rounds of review to make sure everything is just right before taking it to the next step of distribution, submission or publication. We have been doing this since 2008 and are proud of the results we have been able to help our clients achieve since then. It is this experience--as well as times where we have fallen short of the mark (we are human, after all!)--that help us continually to improve our editing and the services we provide to our clients. Such was the case with your query letter. While we did inadvertently misspell the name of your main character (thank you for catching that!), we are excited about the many substantive improvements and recommendations we were able to make to transform your query letter into a great one. Annually, our busiest time is late summer, and particularly August 15th to September 15th, due to the popularity of our services for personal statements, letters of recommendation, MSPEs and the ERAS application for medical residency. During this time of year, we balance this with the rest of our services to ensure we provide the personal attention we have become known for to deliver the best results to each client. We do this, in part, by inquiring of our clients with larger projects what flexibility they may have in needing the work back from us. On August 26, 2019, we received your request to edit your 33,696-word dissertation according to the APA style with a due date of September 5, 2019. On reaching out to you to inquire whether you had any flexibility regarding when we could have the work back to you, you responded that you did not. We delivered our completed work to you on time, by the originally promised due date. After receiving our work from us, you contacted our editor in chief with concerns that we had either introduced or not edited correctly APA style errors in your dissertation. Given that many aspects of APA are open to interpretation, and that often APA does not provide a fixed rule for how to address a particular item, he asked if you could point out the specific areas of your concern so that we could explain our thinking behind why we corrected it the way we did or elected not to make any change. We have been editing dissertations in the APA style since 2008 and would be happy to answer all your questions with our insight from this experience. We have not yet received any reply from you but will be happy to respond as soon as we do.

One of the great advantages of having us review a query letter without having first read the manuscript is that we get to see the query letter exactly as the agent will receive it. And when we do that, we use the feedback from the agents we work with to tell you exactly what does and doesn't work. We did this in your case. Of course, when it comes to advising what to put in the query letter, if we do not have access to the manuscript, or at least the synopsis, we're limited in how much we can do. But we'd love the chance to help you further and bring you one step closer to achieving your goal of finding a home for your novel.

We made 1,003 tracked changes to this 12-page document. We provided over 31 detailed comments, as well as a one-page, detailed analysis of the issues in the document. We followed up with the client to ask if there were any specific concerns or additional questions he had so that we could address them, to which he did not respond. There was no lack of work done. We have been providing high-quality editing and proofreading services since 2008. We made every correction we saw to make, gave every comment we saw to give, and provided a detailed analysis to cover the additional issues we found. And we offered a 10% discount off his next submission.
