Do not use these people
The salespeople are con-artists. They courted us in the beginning and then ghosted us. We are still due sessions and credits that we'll never see again. Their "near -peer" feature is an attempt to differentiate themselves but the tutors we worked with were disasters. They are busy with their college lives and so they were constantly rescheduling and there were no-shows. Dewey brags about having Ivy League tutors. Every service that. Plus, what does it matter if the tutor is at Harvard if they don't show up for the session. My student was trying to take the SAT in August but couldn't get enough sessions scheduled. We even talked to their rep, Emerson, about it and he said it wouldn't be a problem. But then it was. There are a ton of effective tutoring companies. Prep Pros, PrepScholar, Magoosh, Kaplan, Wyzant, Khan Academy. Choose any one of these before you consider Dewey. In the end my student used another service and hit a 1550. He is now going to a Forbes New Ivies.

Jeannie, Thank you for taking the time to share this, and I’m sorry your family had that experience. What you described (missed sessions, no-shows, and being hard to reach when problems came up) is unacceptable.
I also want to provide important context for anyone reading: the events you’re referencing occurred in September 2024, and I did not own or operate Dewey Smart at that time (I acquired the business later). That said, I take feedback like this seriously because it highlights exactly what we must prevent.
Since the acquisition, we’ve made changes specifically to address issues like the ones you raised:
• A new set of software to improve coach scheduling, availability, and matching
• Improved coach screening, selection, and performance monitoring to help reduce instances of bad behavior such as no shows by coaches
• Faster escalation paths with me personally reviewing the support backlog to ensure we're providing the level of service our customers deserve
I want to apologize again and to take a moment to congratulate your family on getting into a great school even without our help.

We couldn't be happier with Dewey…
We couldn't be happier with Dewey Smart! Helping our daughter navigate the NYU application process for the Class of 2030 felt overwhelming given their low acceptance rate, but Dewey Smart was a game-changer. They helped her develop a unique 'theme' that connected her extracurriculars to her major at CAS, which really made her application stand out. Dasha, her essay coach, was top-notch. She helped our daughter find her voice without over-editing. Our daughter was accepted Early Decision, and we truly believe Dewey Smart made the difference. Highly recommend for any parent aiming for a top-tier school!

Great experience!
Great experience! Katelyn was very helpful and attentive to my needs. She has kept me up to date and on time with all of my application due dates. I started the college application process feeling very overwhelmed, but with help from someone knowledgeable and responsible I was able to successfully submit my applications.

I paid more than $3K and had 2 sessions…
I paid more than $3K and had 2 sessions with them. Why would someone waste $3K on 2 sessions. It was bad enough to not waste time.
First they showed a perfect mentor and switched her because she had too many students to help. Then they put another one who was equally swamped. We couldn't get a college list recommendation from the advisor or either of the mentors when they had gone towards similar career path.
Basically one has to do one's own research and just bounce stuff off them. Can I get a template for a research report. Sorry, cant share even a template. But then the advisor would want to sell a whole research stream service on the side.
We were offered to get advisory on applying for aid/ FAFSA and each of them is a separate fee.
Save your money. Go with one on one services. These guys are slave master with 8+ candidates per advisor student alongside a full time post grad workload.

Hello Yash,
Thank you for the feedback, and I’m sorry your experience fell short—especially given you paid upfront and expected consistent, actionable support.
A bit of context: we work with “near-peer” mentors (current and graduated students from top universities). When a mentor’s availability changes, we sometimes re-match to protect continuity and ensure you can actually get time on the calendar. That said, the handoff should feel seamless, and you should never feel like you’re bouncing between overloaded people or not getting the core deliverables you came for (like a college list and clear next steps). We missed the mark here.
On FAFSA/aid: that work is handled by a specialized advisor we bring in separately, because it’s a different skill set than general admissions mentoring. We should have communicated the scope and pricing more clearly upfront.
If you’re open to it, I’d like to make this right. Please email [email protected] (or call +1(866)773-7191 with the email on the account and your timeline, and I’ll personally review what happened, confirm your remaining hours, and ensure you’re matched with someone who has the capacity to support you reliably.
