Translations... but no gender sensitivty for nonbinary trans people
I needed my birth certificate and court order name change translated, but there were issues of misgendering and not respecting my trans identity. Despite initially communicating I do not use the title "Mr.," the emails (written by people) continued misgendering me with the masculine title of address. However, The autogenerated emails were able to correctly use my title "Mx." Ultimately, there were delays because they needed to edit translations and remove unnecessary gendered language like "Mr." and its masculine translations, which never appeared in the original documents to be translated, and this was a very big inconvenience.
Day Translations lack the sensitivity required to be inclusive and respectful of nonbinary trans people. This is upsetting, painful, and frustrating when it comes to such personal documents, but also when it is a service I am PAYING for, and NOT cheaply.
Lack of concern for gendered language demonstrates a dismissal of detail, and this is insightful of their general translation quality. This field of work requires detail orientation.

I have mixed feelings about my …
I have mixed feelings about my experience with Day Translations. I booked an interpreter to help my mother with her US Citizenship test. Since this was my first time booking such a service, I wasn't sure how the process worked, so I called beforehand to inquire whether I would be provided the contact information of the interpreter so that I could get in contact with them before the appointment date, so that we could discuss where we would meet, how I would be able to identify them, etc. I was assured that such information would be provided to me after booking, so I went ahead and made the reservation.
By the time the day before the interview came, I had not received any information or confirmation email, so I called customer service again and I was told that the appointment had not yet been finalized, but that I could expect to received the information I wanted by the evening. I waited until 9 pm to call them again, and the person I spoke to then told me that they had just confirmed an interpreter and that I would finally be receiving the contact information. So I waited another 30 minutes or so, and still no email. By this time, I was very worried because the appointment was at 8:30 the following morning, and I needed to go to bed soon, since the appointment location is about 3 hours away from where we live. I went on their Facebook page and left a message via Messenger, I finally I discovered that they have a chat function on their website, so I was able to contact another person that way.
I explained my situation to the person on the chat, and she finally sent me the confirmation email. However, there was no contact information on there for the interpreter, all I had was the name. The person on the chat told me that they would give the interpreter a message on my behalf, so I asked for the interpreter to please meet us right outside the building, and to please have a sign with my name on it so that I would be able to identify them. I was assured that my instructions would be followed.
When we arrived at the location of the interview, the interpreter had not arrived yet, so we waited a few minutes. Finally I saw a gentleman walk into the building and I noticed he was holding a Spanish-English dictionary, so I rushed to ask him if he was the interpreter, which luckily he was. He was not holding any signs with my name, which leads me to believe that my message was never relayed to him.
As we were riding on the elevator, he told me that he is not an interpreter, but rather a translator, and that he had made this very clear to Day Translations, but that he felt confident that he could do the job. There was nothing my mom or I could do at this point so I just hoped for the best. My mom has a fair understanding of spoken English, but since she qualified for the English language exemption because of her age, I figured she could also use an interpreter to make sure that everything went smoothly, and to also take of some off the pressure. After the interview was over and we had parted ways with the interpreter, my mom told me that the interpreter had a bit of a hard time and that he had to stop and look up words in his dictionary every so often, and that for a lot of the questions my mom understood the English better than the interpreter spoke Spanish. Had my mom not had any knowledge of English, I'm not sure how things would have turned out.
The interpreter was extremely nice and polite, however, after learning all this, I became very disappointed with Day Translations. I thought I was booking an interpreter that had experience with these types of situations, or at least more fluency with the spoken language, and I can honestly say that we were not satisfied with the service we were provided, especially for the amount of money we paid.

Dear Ms. Lueck,
We have received your feedback and we understand that you had some concerns regarding the interpreting services we have provided for you last October 18, 2017. We are reaching out to you today to respond to the concerns you have brought up.
First, we apologize for not being able to make the process clear. After confirming through the link, we processed your request to book one of our interpreters for you. We have several Spanish interpreters in Memphis, and upon your confirmation, the assignment was considered booked with us, which means we definitely would provide you with an interpreter for the appointment.
We usually send our interpreter's details prior to the interpretation date-this is because we receive several requests daily and we need to arrange our schedule accordingly before assigning and sending the details.
As for contact information, we do not provide our interpreter's direct contact information to the client due to our privacy policy, however you can always reach out to us (the project managers) regarding your concerns via email, phone call, and chat and we attend to your needs right away. You can contact us 24/7 as we are reachable through these methods at any time. If there is a need to speak to the interpreter directly, we can patch you through to them if needed.
We did relay all your instruction for the interpreter to bring a sign with your name. He confirmed that he would do this the night before the assignment. We apologize if this was not done and we will check with our interpreter to see why it was not followed.
We also understand that you were anxious since the interpreter has informed you that he is not an interpreter but a translator. Translators usually deal with written translations, while interpreters with verbal ones. Both require skills, knowledge and fluency in the languages needed, and Mr. Henwood, the interpreter we have assigned, is seasoned in providing legal translations. Aside from this, we have also made sure to screen him thoroughly before actually assigning him for the project, checking his verbal interpretation skills and sending him materials to help him prepare with the immigration interview. We would not have sent him to the appointment if we had not screened him and found him suitable for the assignment. We apologize if his statement made you nervous but there was no need to be anxious, since Mr. Henwood has been screened thoroughly before being assigned. From the report we have received from Mr. Henwood, the interpretation went well and your mother's appointment went smoothly and she was able to pass the immigration interview.
We hope we were able to answer all your concerns for you. We take your feedback very seriously and we'd like to know if you have other concerns so we can address them. Please let us know how we can further assist and improve your experience with our company. We'd love to know what we can do to improve the rating that you have provided us.

Poor translation quality English to German
I have worked with Day Translations before and satisfactory experiences. Their customer service and 24x7 fast response is absolutely great and they do address your concerns effectively. However, both the initial translation quality of the contract I had them translate was far below acceptable, as was the version that they had one of their senior persons produce with a 3-day wait. I got everything from omissions, grammar errors, and distorting the original meaning. We must have gone through 10 revisions over the course of a week before I finally approved the translation. It felt I paid $300 for obtaining a certificate while contributing much of the work myself. Not sure I will come here again.

interpreter spoke english to our Arabic-speaking clients!
The arabic-speaking interpreter we hired from Day Translations was very nice, and arrived early, which was good, as we booked him with such short notice, but didn't know any legal terms in arabic, even though we specifically requested an interpreter for a LEGAL conference! He spoke English to our clients while he was trying to interpret what the attorneys were saying, to the point where one of our clients, who spoke minimal English, asked him to stop, because he was getting more out of trying to listen to the English-speaking attorney. In all, it was a very unpleasant experience.

I have no opinion because the translator never showed.
I was expecting a translator for an employee meeting but he never showed up. He apparently was in an accident. I had to call to find out what had happened. I heard back after the meeting was over and we ended up using another employee to translate for us. Everyone was very responsive and I received a credit back for the charge on my account.

Not happy with Day Translations Services
We recently received a review on some materials that were translated into German for a trade show our owner was a part of. The fluent speaking German individual stated that our translated materials made no sense and looked like whoever had done them had used a generic Google Translate. Not happy with that considering we paid Day Translations to do this service for us! I could have used Google Translate myself for free instead of wasting money.

Thanks a lot. However, we never use any translation tools. Please contact us and we will solve the problem immediately.
