The packaging has gone downhill completely. Almost 1 of every 4 pack is brown vs red now. And the packs tear so easily causing spills/leaks even when you're careful with the perforation
My dog doesn’t like the food anymore. She used to get so excited

Horrible Shipping Setup/Customer Service
All of the other negative reviews are absolutely correct, this company is so disorganized with their shipping and they put LITTLE effort into trying to support their customers or even help them understand what is going on. I tried their special new customer box- which was cheap and worth it to try. I turned on auto ship when setting this up, and about a month later when I saw an email to remind me about an upcoming delivery, I went to cancel it as I still had food in the freezer and did not need more. Their email stated they just needed 48 hours to cancel or change an order, so I cancelled within the 48 hours. I even got an email confirming I had cancelled. Then, a few days later I get charged $180 for an order and I get a box full of stuff at my door. I wish I could have returned the product and save myself from dealing with their terrible customer service, but it was not the case. To make a very long and confusing story straight- they admitted (after an initial BS email containing no helpful information or even an apology) that they had "just changed their policy to 72 hours notice, not 48". NOWHERE did they state this on their website or in an email so that customers would be aware of this important change. I cannot believe they would not give their customers any notice whatsoever. Not only did they basically admit it being their fault for not telling me at all about this change, but they said nothing could be done. I had to push to get a manager to let me know they could give me "half off". This is the most ridiculous company I have ever dealt with- it seemed like they were trying to pull one over their customers and get away with taking our money and gaslight us into thinking we customers are at fault for THEIR major mistake. How would I know to give more notice if they do not TELL ME? I didn't even mention this to customer service (not like they would have cared or helped) but the first beginner box I got did not come with the welcoming guide or storing box as listed, and my cats both threw up several times as some of the meat I received was spoiled and not packaged right. (I strictly followed thawing and feeding guides, so I know it was not me). I am still in awe on how this was dealt with, and I would not recommend this to others. You better hope nothing goes wrong with your orders or you will be screwed!
UPDATE: They did finally give me a full refund after I emailed another time and wrote this review. Although I am glad we came to this conclusion, they made it very hard to get the refund I deserved. Every person I spoke to came up with a different excuse for why my order went through (and none of it made any sense). Seems like the company just tells these people to say whatever they can to hopefully stop the customer from getting the refund they deserve. Very unorganized and almost scam like!

Been using this food for about 3 months…
Been using this food for about 3 months now. I can tell it is quality and my cats have been more energetic on it. Their customer service reps are super nice. HOWEVER, they can't seem to get their heads wrapped around what a subscription is and why we subscribe. They seem to haphazardly ship whenever it suits them and I end up running out of food EVERY TIME despite calling to complain and adjusting my order size or order date. I would only recommend Darwins to people who have a huge amount of room for stress and anxiety in their lives.

Ridiculous shipping costs
Just wanted say after being a customer for nearly eight years I was dismayed when my shipping went up to $150. So I found another raw pet food brand in Pennsylvania. They only charge me $40.00 for shipping for the same 20lbs of food and I live in Alaska. Like Darwin’s they send it on Monday and I get it on Thursday. Maybe you should dump UPS and switch to FedEx. Sincerely, Michelle Akers

BEWARE OF THE TURKEY
BE CAREFUL WITH TURKEY: Darwin's worked for my dog for about 2 years until quality of Turkey started to become very inconsistent. We'd find 4-packs of grey/ discolored turkey patties placed within our shipments frequently (fortunately we were able to salvage some by cooking thoroughly) and eventually my dog began refusing the food all together. I was pretty desperate to make this work - he has GI issues that restrict the meat-portion of his diet to, essentially, Turkey only - but customer service didn't want to bother looking into the problem. Then the same issue happened to my mom's turkey orders, from several states away. Customer service failed her too so we've both canceled out subscriptions. Oh well, my dog's happier without it.

To love or not to love - that is the question
I have a (now) 7-month-old kitten who should still be eating kitten food. Henry either loves something or hates it down to his bones - typical cat behavior. I didn't see kitten food as an option with Darwin's, but I selected Natural Selections (10 pounds of individually frozen, packaged chicken and/or turkey meals) because the ingredients ticked all the boxes that I thought a kitten should have. I also read somewhere that ground-up bone was actually beneficial for animals to eat. Honestly, using the internet, I even created a spreadsheet listing many brands with pros and cons for each. A lot of homework went into this. Darwin's won! It also helped that there was an introductory offer of $14.95 (normally $80.06) PLUS!!! a free Venison Jerky 4 oz Package if desired -which of course I accepted - all for $15.85 (included free shipping and $0.90 tax) if I signed up for one of those automatic renewals which are approximately every 10 weeks (look for the fine print).
The order came quickly in the mail within 1-2 days, each individual serving nicely packaged in dry ice. The 1st time I was so excited to serve it to Henry, I thawed it in the microwave, which they actually recommend not doing. Nope, don't do that. It's meant to be eaten raw, like in the wild. I only meant to thaw out the block, but microwave ovens have a mind of their own when using the defrost cycle. So, I took a spatula and tried to separate all the cooked bits into itty-bitty pieces. With great anticipation, I presented this delicacy to Henry. It sat in his dish 6 +/- hours. It was like a dagger to my heart. I even got down on all fours and pretended to be eating it myself. Then I tried spoonfeeding because sometimes that works (yes, I'm crazy, anthropomorphizing). I even tried adding broth to it. Long story short (ha) Henry wouldn't eat it and I had to pitch it because it's poultry after all. Next experience a week later, I heated a new serving again, in a pan, just to make it fresh-kill temperature but uncooked. Nope. Guess he missed the connection spoon-feeding provides. So, besides making my garbage pail smell bad, no forward momentum.
Ever an optimist, I tried again last night for his 5 pm feeding (with a week plus interlude between presentations). I tossed it again at 5 am this morning (yes, he has me on a schedule) and again served him his tried and true canned food instead. Ugh, the smell at 5am throwing out the uneaten delicacy is not conducive to crawling back to bed. Start the Keurig.
So, in the interest of making my review even shorter (another ha) the preparation of Darwin's formula seems to be without question a great recipe, my cat just doesn't like it. Maybe I'll make hamburgers out of it. Meanwhile, Darwin's was quick to accept my cancellation of future shipments and I was quite pleased with their service and response time. Of course, I'll be reviewing the auto-charges on my credit card next month. Any ideas on what to do with the remaining weeks of food in my freezer is welcome (in case my husband finds his hamburgers tasting funky)?
