Very disappointed in this pattern. Not many instructions or pictures to help guide you.
Also your “materials needed section” reference knitting needles instead of a crochet hook. Might be very confusing for a beginner.
I’ve purchased many patterns and consider myself an intermediate. This pattern is very vague to say the least. I really think that you could do better!

Do not buy from this company if you're non US resident
Sadly, the wholesome ethos publicised on DGY's website does not carry through the company, especially NY headquarters. Nicole Snow & most (not all) of her team are money-hungry charlatans.
DGY has a private FB group for loyal customers. Special sales & discount offers take place within the FB group. Nicole's team essentially endeavour to whip their customers into a garment buying frenzy within the private FB group. The more product you buy, the more product dangled temptingly in your eyeline.
DGY has a loyalty point system called karma points. Like other establishments, a purchase in USD amounts to the building up of karma points, which 'Should' be available as a discount against future orders. The frustrating thing is that most of DGY's sales Do Not permit customers to use their karma points to reduce the amount paid over to Nicole's company. So, you're spending USD and your karma points balance is rising (without an avenue to redeem it against).
Furthermore, Nicole cannot abide any sort of reasoned dispute. Question some of her company rules or be so bold as I was, as to seek a refund for undelivered orders, and she will expel you from the private DGY Facebook group. Voicing one's opinion fearlessly (& respectfully) is the right of a customer. Attempting to censore said customer(s) by barring them from a private FB group is churlish & cowardly. But not a huge surprise given the purge of members initiated by Nicole approx 2 years ago.
Way to go Nicole Snow! It takes a lifetime to build a loyal customer base, & just one second to lose them. Please keep your eyes peeled for formal correspondence ref undelivered orders dispute. I was pleasantly surprised at the responses I got from Lucy Loop, your bot, but she seems to have been overruled by the HQ oligarchy.
Yours in good faith
Jackie

Good day!
We’re sorry to hear that you feel this way about your experience with DGY. We understand that customers may have different perspectives on our policies, promotions, loyalty program, and community guidelines.
That said, we believe it is important to distinguish between disagreement with a company policy and claims about the intentions or character of the people behind it. Our team works hard to serve our customers, and we do not take lightly accusations that suggest otherwise.
DGY has been in this industry for 20 years, and during that time we have worked hard to build a business that creates sustainable jobs and livelihoods for people both here and abroad. We are proud of the community and opportunities that have grown alongside our company, and we believe that history speaks more meaningfully to our values than assumptions about our intentions.
Our policies are communicated to customers and are applied consistently, including the terms surrounding promotions, loyalty rewards, and participation in our private community. We also reserve the right to moderate our customer spaces to maintain a constructive and respectful environment.
We respect your right to share your experience and perspective, even when we disagree with the conclusions drawn from it. We’re always open to constructive, good-faith feedback and will continue to use it to improve where appropriate.

I have no trust in Darn Good Yarn
I have been a long time customer of Darn Good Yarn, I no longer have trust in them. I won an auction bundle December21,2025, the label was created December 28,2025. Then nothing, after about a month later I contacted about this order. Again nothing. Then suddenly March 2,2026 it was accepted at a post office in California. Supposedly delivered March 5,2026. It was not delivered to me. When we contacted the post office, yes a package with that tracking number was delivered but not to me, my name or address was not on the label. They won't tell me where it was delivered. I contacted Darn Good Yarn and got a AI bot answer. Have not heard anything since. It sounds like a scam to me. They no longer have customer service. I was a small business owner, it takes alot of time and work. I always did the right thing when there was a problem. I have also worked in retail, this is no way to treat a customer. So they have my 84.00 and I have nothing. They have basically stolen my money by lack of action! This isn't the first time recently that I have had issues with orders. I don't trust them.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and I’m truly sorry for the frustrating experience you’ve had.
We completely understand why this situation has caused concern. Unfortunately, once a package is in the hands of the carrier, we don’t have direct control over its handling or delivery. That said, we take issues like this very seriously.
It also appears that your previous message was not responded to as quickly as it should have been due to being routed to the wrong channel. We sincerely apologize for that delay and any added frustration it caused.
To make this right, we will be issuing a full refund of $84.00 immediately.
We truly appreciate your past support and are very sorry to have let you down in this instance. If there’s anything further we can do, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Kind regards,
Claudia

"Surprise skeins" - Surprise its trash
"Surprise skeins" marketed as "overstocks and bestsellers that retail for $15" are junk scrap yarn they dug out of the trash. They dont even ship from the same place as as their actual retail yarn. At least that was the excuse why they didnt send the skein I paid full retail price for. So I didnt get the one thing I wanted & only got a bunch of trash balls for $5 each that were dirty and gross. AND they want ME to pay fedex to come pick it up because im disabled and cant drive. They shipped it via USPS but wont let me return it via USPS. They actually suggested "I get someone to take me there" Like im going to spend $30 to uber to fedex to mail them back their trash to pawn off on another unsuspecting customer. They only sent me the fedex label after I opened a dispute with the credit card conpany after weeks of them making excuses about their unlabeled trash being sold as "overstocks and bestsellers". Then they whined about the chargeback fees despite that being the only reason they even sent a return label. Chargeback fees can be avoided by not lying about what you sell and addressing the issues immediately. Theyre not the victim. They stole my money. They lied about what their surprise skeins were. They decided to send used scrap trash for $5 a cake (they werent even skeins). They didnt bother sending the $28 retail yarn I ordered. They had weeks to send a USPS label or just issue a refund. But boohoo they gave to pay chargeback fees bc I didnt want to let them keepy money? I wish I could post photos of just how gross and disgusting this yarn was. "Sustainable" companies dont ship in multiple shipments, dont pass off used acrylic trash as retail hand dyed yarn, label the fiber content of their products and dont waste money & energy shipping trash back and forth.
If they sent it via USPS, I shpuld be able to return it via USPS. Not have to pay someone to drive me to some other carrier. Or they can arrange for carrier pickup like e every other company does to accomodate disabilities so they're violating the ADA.
Edit: This is the description on their website:
"Each $5 Surprise Skein is a hand-picked from our studio stash—pulled from past bestsellers, rare overstock, and small-batch extras. You won’t know what weight or colorway you’ll get—but that’s half the fun!
Normally $18–$25, this is the perfect way to treat yourself, spark creativity, or top off your cart with something totally unique (and totally worth it)."
I did not get anything that came from their "studio stash" or that ever retailed for the price stated. I got trash. And they have the audacity to say "surprise! it's not returnable". I did not receive anything like the description. The description should say "random trash from our junk bin - mostly worthless" and then I can understand. They market this as if you're getting retail skeins that you can't return if you don't like the colors. Instead they send you literal trash balls [not even skeins] from a junk bin and say "all sales are final - even if we set you trash and lied about what we selecting these from and how much they retail for". They have pieces of OTHER yarns in them - that can only happen if they were laying around in a junk bin before being balled. They aren't retail size. They aren't kept at the same location they ship their retail product from and they literally STOLE other money from me by NOT sending the $28 retail item I ordered. They still have my money and whined about the chargeback fees and whined about an alleged non-refundable fedex label [lies] costing them money while they KEPT $28 for a product they never sent and $50 they kept from selling me trash. Of course there's a chargeback fee - it's to discourage from STEALING from people like they did to me. DO NOT BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE. THEY LIE and STEAL your money then cry like they're the victim while your money is still in their pocket.

Hi there,
I’m really sorry to hear how frustrating this experience has been for you. That’s definitely not how we want anyone to feel. 💛
Our “surprise skeins” are offered at a heavily discounted price and are considered final sale, as they can include a wide variety of yarns depending on available stock. We did not lie about the products. Like the product name states ''surprise skein''. That said, we understand they didn’t meet your expectations, which is why we made an exception and provided a prepaid return label at our cost.
Regarding the return method, we currently partner with FedEx for returns, and while we’re unable to arrange pickups directly, FedEx may offer pickup services for an additional fee if that’s something you’d like to explore. We understand that this may not be ideal, and we truly appreciate your feedback on this.
We’re sorry again for the disappointment and inconvenience caused. Your feedback is important to us, and we’ll be sure to share it with our team as we continue working to improve our processes.

I ordered 2 skeins of yarn
I ordered 2 skeins of yarn - never received. The package was delivered and it was completely empty - I still have the package. I didn't open it or reseal it. It is obviously empty. After much ado to re-order the yarn, the cancelled the order because they said they shipped the yarn and would no longer do business with me. I work retail, I would not screw someone out of product. They won't answer their phone or respond to messages. I'm furious.
It's amazing that once you post a bad review, they try to apologize. They weren't will to help me before the reviews. I would never and will never do business with them again. There are too many good yarn companies out there that value their customers.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and I’m truly sorry for the frustration and distress this situation has caused. That is absolutely not the experience we want for any of our customers, especially someone who understands retail and clearly acted in good faith.
An empty package is understandably upsetting, and we recognize that this can happen due to issues during transit that are completely outside of your control. I sincerely apologize if our previous communication or actions made you feel unheard or unfairly treated.
We would like the opportunity to review this again and look into what happened. If you’re willing, please reply with photos of the packaging you received (including the shipping label and the empty contents) so we can escalate this internally and reassess the situation with our team.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We genuinely want to make this right and appreciate your patience while we investigate further. -DGY Team

No way to track your order unless you…
No way to track your order unless you download an app and agree to be spammed CONSTANTLY. No customer service except patronizing AI bots. They've ruined my daughter's Christmas. Don't let the ruin yours!
Response from Darn Good YarnDec 23, 2025
Hello Joe,
We are truly sorry for your experience and for the frustration this caused, especially during the holidays. We sincerely apologize for the delay in shipping and for how our automated replies came across. That is not the level of service we strive to provide.
We understand how disappointing this must have been, particularly when the order was meant for your daughter’s Christmas. Your feedback about order tracking and our AI system is important, and we will be sharing it with our team so we can improve both communication and customer support.
At this point, your order is on its way and is expected to arrive shortly after Christmas, following the holiday shipping delays. Again, we’re very sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns.

Terrible
I ordered three items from Darn Good Yarn - the Trinkets and Treasures mystery bag, the Mystery Notions grab bag, and a skirt. The only item I was pleased with was the skirt. The grab bags did not come wrapped - instead it was just look items in a box. The yarn was of exceeding poor quality - one left dye on my hands after crocheting with it and one is so tangled up no one in my family can unwind it. My mom and aunt are working on it now and it has torn several times from gentle pressure. Do not but crafting supplies from this company - the yarn is, in fact, NOT darn good. It's the most I've ever spent on my hobby and I was so, so disappointed to have my first "good" yarn be so cheap and impossible to work with.
