Daughter had a SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION. Had to seek medical attention
My daughter used Curology before going to bed. She woke up around 3 a.m with her face burning, itching, and a rash on it. Less than 12 hours later she was in the doctor’s office because her face is so inflamed that her eyes are swollen shut. She has a rash on her face, neck, lips, and behind her ears. The doctor gave her steroids and an anti itch cream. Her face is so irritated that it burns when she applies the cream. Benadryl won’t stop the itching. She has to walk with her head up because she can’t see with her head facing forward because her eyes are so swollen and inflamed. She is miserable.
Using Curology products have cost me money. I had to pay doctor’s and buy medicine to try to undo the damage these products have caused my daughter.
My daughter WILL NEVER purchase any acne products online again. I will pay for her to go to a dermatologist.
The risk of using Curology is too great for child.
I have reported my daughter’s experience with Curology to the FDA.

Hi K.C,
Thank you for letting us know about your experience with Curology. We strongly encourage reaching out to your dermatology provider for treatment for the reaction if you haven't done so already. They are there to help!
Please know that we request a complete medical history when patients sign up for Curology, and this includes allergies. We would never want to prescribe anything that a patient has a known allergy to. That said, when trying any new topical, it is possible that an ingredient you have never used before may cause a reaction. Again, please contact your provider as soon as possible so that they can offer their advice. 💜

I had high hopes because I did see a difference in my skin. I felt like it was looking clearer and just overall brighter. I had a glow! But on day 4 my skin started to get really sensitive and started to burn when I would apply the moisturizers. The next day my skin was peeling. It took a day or so to peel completely and I got really bad hard spots on my face after. It took a little under a week for the hard spots to completely go away. Finally my skin in back to normal. Since then I have not used any facial cleansing products and just a basic moisturizer to be safe for now.

Hi Cassandra,
Thank you so much for reaching out and letting us know about your concerns. Let's see if we can clarify a few things for you.
You mentioned experiencing sensitivity, a burning sensation, and hard spots, and I encourage you to speak with your Curology provider about this (if you haven't already). Please know that many prescription topical medications can make breakouts worse initially and cause temporary irritation, so most patients do best with regular dialogue with their dermatology providers!
If you do not find that our products are working for you, though, we completely understand. You may benefit from an in-person dermatologist instead. If you need help finding an in-person dermatologist, you can ask your primary care physician or other local healthcare provider for a recommendation, or visit the American Academy of Dermatology site: https://www.aad.org/find-a-derm. We only want what's best for you!
We hope you find that information helpful! We encourage you to contact your Curology provider if you'd like to discuss this in more detail. 💜

My Curology Experience
Now before I start I want to let everyone know this is my experience on my skin I won't give you any guarantee that this is what happens to every skin. When I purchased my three bottles of curology I was ecstatic because maybe-just maybe I could finally get rid of acne and my really hideous breakouts. However that was never the case, before my products arrived I started to do research and tried to find out the most effective way to use the products. When they arrived I started using them right away and made a great routine. However the second day I used it I noticed irritation on my skin nevertheless I still continued. After a couple days, when I used the formula that was made specifically for my skin, I had really bad burns, my face felt like it was on fire. After going on their website they said that "the burn means that it's working!"
If any product that burns your skin stop using it! After using it for like 4 weeks, I had the worse breakouts, my face was really irritated, I couldn't use my regular cleanser or even moisturizer let alone any makeup. My face's was horrible, and I realised that even if a specific product is very expensive or had a lot of great review there is not guarantee. I forced myself to believe that the painful burn was supposed to happen and would only result in a clear face.
Hope this review helps, I don't want people to go through what I did:)

Hi,
Thank you so much for reaching out and letting us know about your concerns! It sounds like you are feeling frustrated with your experience at Curology. Let's see if we can clarify a few things for you.
First, you mentioned experiencing worsening breakouts and irritation, and I encourage you to speak with your provider about this (if you haven’t already). Please know that many prescription acne medications can make breakouts worse initially and cause temporary irritation, so most patients do best with regular dialogue with their dermatology providers!
Second, you mentioned seeing “the burn means that it’s working!” on our website. We do have a blog post titled “Skincare Myth: “The Burn Means It’s Working!”, but this blog post explains why “the burn means it’s working” is not true. Please let us know if you saw this phrase somewhere else, though!
With that said, if you do not find that our products are working for you, we completely understand, and you may be better served by an in-person dermatologist. If you need help finding an in-person dermatologist, you can ask your primary care physician or other local healthcare provider for a recommendation, or visit the American Academy of Dermatology site: https://www.aad.org/find-a-derm. We hope you find that information helpful. Please message your Curology provider if you'd like to discuss this in more detail. 💜

I recently started feeling burning when…
I recently started feeling burning when I was putting on the moisturizer, and realize that there is an ingredient only in the moisturizer that will increase acne and harm sensitive skin (like mine) the ingredient is phenoxyethanol which is a preservative in cosmetics. I’m pretty upset that a program designed to help people with skin problems would use that. I don’t want to use these products anymore as it’s making my acne worse and burns when I use the moisturizer. But when you sign up for the free sample, you get locked into spending 80 dollars every couple months! Do NOT buy this product if you have sensitive skin!
Edit: to Curology’s reply, they actually were very quick to end my subscription I will say that. I just sent them an email letting them know I’d like to end my subscription, and they did so immediately without hassle. I was upset though that I couldn’t just do it online, no button or links via website, and I felt stuck in a program simply because in my opinion their site wasn’t very user friendly, so I had to reach out via email.
Second, the ingredient being deemed safe wasn’t part of the question at all. There are many many ingredients deemed safe by whomever organization yada yada. But the facts remain, that people with very sensitive skin will still react after continued use, to the smallest amounts of even possibly irritating ingredients. It is what it is. So people like us need to know to avoid them, and yes, that ingredient is in absolutely everything, it was very hard for me to find a product line that doesn’t have them, but trust me guys, they do exist! And they don’t have to be expensive!
Third, I have dealt with acne and dermatologists since I was 14, that is a very long time. I am very familiar with the time needed to get used to products. I know that things can “get worse before they get better”, I’ve been at this battle for a long time, and so has my mother. I know my stuff so to say lol
Listen, if it hurts when you do that, DONT DO THAT
I think that this product could work for certain people, but for people like me, and maybe people like you, who have tried everything and are desperate.. you see Curology across your phone screen and you think it’s a godsend, but it’s just another basic skin care product. They have made an easy to use program in the modern world for people if it is something that works for them. But if you’ve tried a dermatologist, if you’ve tried everything, this isn’t going to help. Anyone who has ONLY used over the counter stuff, I’d say give curology a shot, it’s a 5$ trial and they will end it at any time.

Hi Ashley,
Thank you so much for reaching out and letting us know about your concerns! It sounds like you are feeling frustrated with your experience at Curology. Let's see if we can clarify a few things for you.
You mentioned experiencing worsening breakouts and a burning sensation, and I encourage you to speak with your provider about this (if you haven’t already). I’m not sure how long you used your formula but know that many prescription acne medications can make breakouts worse initially and cause temporary irritation, so most patients do best with regular dialogue with their dermatology providers!
You also asked about one of the ingredients in our moisturizer. Please know that both our moisturizer and rich moisturizer have been designed by in-house dermatologists to be non-comedogenic, fragrance-free, dye-free, paraben-free, and hypoallergenic. In the U.S. phenoxyethanol is deemed safe for use in cosmetics in concentrations of up to 1 percent, and we use less than this concentration in our products. You will find this ingredient in many well-regarded products.
Finally, please know that no one is locked into spending money on Curology’s products. We offer a 90 day money back guarantee to all new members. Members are also free to cancel their subscription at any time. This information is available on our support page.
With that said, if you do not find that our products are working for you, we completely understand, and you may be better served by an in-person dermatologist. 2 years of use- No results
After using the product for two years straight I finally decided to call it quits. Messaging my curology provider was simple and they were always willing to change my prescription but I never truly saw clear skin as advertised. I would message them every few months will photos showing the product wasn't working and they would tweek the formula or tell me my skin was purging. After 2 years of frustration thinking it couldn't possibly be them causing my acne I decided to do a test and stop it for a week. We're now on week three of no curology and my skin is crystal clear.

I started curology after I heard about…
I started curology after I heard about it from my friends. I was super excited that had a system that I could easily follow. Since using curology, I have not seen any results. I canceled my monthly subscription but still had all of the products. Today I opened my pump bottle because the pump was not working great while there was so much still left. I ended up getting it out with a qtip but after I applied it to my face I felt like there was like glass or plastic bits on my face. I went back to the bottle and took more out this time and there were little bits of plastic in the bottle??? SO MANY OF THEM. I am so confused about why there would be plastic bits in a skin care product. My skin is irritated now so I would never recommend this product to anyone.

Hi Alina,
Thank you for letting us know about the consistency of your formula. Although it's rare, components of the formula may undergo crystallization, and this may be the case with your bottle.
Please feel free to message our Customer Sucess Team at [email protected] so they can offer suggestions and potentially replace your bottle. 💜

Hi Harshdeep,
I'm so sorry you've been unhappy with your Curology experience!
If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend messaging your Medical Provider as a formula change might be necessary. Your Medical Provider is also a great source for information, so feel free to message them if you have any questions as they'll be more than happy to offer suggestions.
Once again, I'm so sorry, but I hope this helps! 💜
